Art fakery in LOTR

Just curious -- a while back, there was a big to-do about someone passing off portraits of various LOTR actors as hand-drawn that were in fact Photoshop manips and photos run throguh various filters

I remember that too and if you want to check out the wank it's here. But there are 76 pages of comments, so it might take you a while. It might be faster to ask on an art community, if that's what you're after.

I can't imagine you want to go through all seventy-something pages of that thread, but this brief subthread has the steps a couple of people used to achieve that effect.

Also, in another subthread, Cesare on JF (almostnever) provided a detailed link to a PDF-format Photoshop tutorial on the same thing.

Well, shit. I remember almostnever posting that tutorial in her LJ because I followed it; seemed like a cool technique. :) And I thought I'd memoried it, but now I can't find it. Bah.
