90% of the time, that book is W-R-O-N-G supernaduh November 10 2011, 10:27:42 UTC
If immediate environment dictates my being, then I should be just like my mother and younger sister who both share the love for dressing-up and shopping. And I tell you, I have VERY LITTLE of that XD

And outside of it, if that book's right, then I should be another regular girl who's pressured into finding a BF and who regularly dresses in flats and skinny jeans and listens to pop-RnB music. I'm Japan-obsessed most times (even got made fun of in school because of it XD), and I love mah hoodies, jeans, and low-cut chucks.

So~~~

I think that varies from person to person... for people who aren't strong they'd tend to do what the book says...
but surely you have a point in saying that it isn't totally true, but that's because base on your own experience you did differently from what the book says...
still, there are many persons who are influenced by their surroundings and all...

In my opinion too, your environment doesn't "determinate" you...
Cuz for me, if it was true, I should be working in medecine as everyone around me is connected to it tho I'm studying English & Japanese, even when everyone told me it's useless, in order to maybe live in Japan (and there is no way I step a foot in an hospital -_-) and so on...

But, at the same time I think it "influence" you... Inconsciously maybe, you like or hate what your confronted to everyday... As for exemple you like this song cuz your mother listen to it a lot or you dislike this food cuz once you father cooked it and it was horrible...
But in no way it tells you what you will become -_-

I... just think that it does *not* determinate you at 100% but in a way it influence you... ^o)

lol sorry if I dont make any sense right now xD

I think it really depends. Maybe it is a choice that people don't really realize they have. A baby accepts whatever it was taught. As they grow older, and the environment stays the same, then the person might just stay the same or react the same way. Unless they experience something different and notice that there is actually something different from what they are used to. Eg. A kid grows up being hit all the time. Maybe the city is like that, that hitting kids is alright. So, the kid thinks hitting is ok. He grows up and hits his kids too. Nobody is stopping this. The cycle goes on and on. Unless he sees otherwise, that hitting is not right, then he won't change because there aren't any outside forces making him change or think. Now if you grow up in an environment which is more enlightened, then YOU know you have a choice. You can follow your parents, yourself, whoever you wish. This is YOU and your life. But a lot of people don't see that. THE CHOICE. And in a way, you are right. It depends on your personality ( ... )

It depends on your personality as well, if you're a fighter or a follower. I'm totaly agree with you.
