Negotiations have moved along, helped in part by giving Miette one of the cat tranquilizers left over from the move. woah. you drugged Miette to stop a catfight? That must have been some fight! Its likely that One got into something that made him smell strange to Miette. That happened with our cats when we moved in here. Lucy got into the basement and when we brought her back up, Deedlit meant Serious Business and wanted her really really dead. You say One was looking outside?

Its possible that there was another male outside. He may have erm "marked his territory" in close proximity. If your door were even a crack open, this odd scent could have gotten enough on him that Miette freaked out.

It *is* kitty mating season after all. Cats go a little insane in the spring.

Yeah, but I've had them both for years and never seen them act this way. And they're both fixed (I know that doesn't 100% change things)

One always stares out the window, though. Nothing unusual. (He's doing it now, in fact).

I had some strange dreams last night (between the frequent interruptions) that all kinds of other cats had found their way into the apartment because the door was cracked open, but it's been closed and locked for some time.
