and now it was just on an episode of boy meets world in the middle of tbs' all-day (every day) early-'90s family sitcom marathon. weird.

very weird. the first time I heard it, my dad read it to me in a fightening voice; he's good at those.

I love that poem, it's especially a favorite in AK. I have heard it at many an elocution contest. :)

do people ever call it "the A-K"? just curious, because that would be no good, no good at all. just like pople call my hometown sa-town (pronounced say-town) or houston h-town. I have a problem with abbreviations.

haha, nope! We do call this crazy place such outrageous names as "the lower 48" and "Outside." As in "I'm going Outside for spring break, to Washington!"

We also sometimes call Anchorage "Anchy"...but that's about it. A-Town would sound too much like a fallen boy band.
