I saw the Avengers movie, so I can read livejournal again.

I don't have thinky thoughts on it just yet, beyond kind of admiring its construction--I mean, mostly I feel like I got hit between the eyes with a Mjollnir made of Movie--but I do have a few favorites/questions/things probably everyone else has already mulled over: ( I have some red on my ledger )

Heh! Was it the Banner part? What do I win?

I mean, the movie is very loud and flashy and the final battle, though well choreographed, goes on a long time, but if you can look past all that, the individual characters are well performed and there's a lot of implied depth even if it doesn't all get brought into the light. Mostly, I'm just impressed that it paid off all of its leads as well as it did.

It was the suggestion that there are actually interesting characters here and that the hype isn't all about the subtext. Which, yawn. ;)

Although now I'm annoyed that all the fans want to talk about is the subtext!

They are interesting characters, definitely, especially the ones played by better actors. I want to talk all about Bruce Banner's angst.

Yes, basically. As you say, he juggled the characters with just enough care and attention.

I found some of the zing!!! action dialogue a little Obvious on second viewing, but whatever. It's an action movie.

I don't feel the Loki love.

Did you see Thor? I'm asking 'cause that's where I got mine, though it's not weathering this movie very well at all. But I can understand not getting Loki love from Thor either--he's kind of a prat.

More fighting in dark woods! More Banner and Stark talking SCIENCE BUSINESS! More NATASHA AND HAWKEYE OKAY EVEN IF IT'S JUST FOR ME.

YESSSSSSSSSS.

I'm already in line for the Black Widow (+ some Hawkeye, hopefully!) movie, actually. Just saying.
