You can run, but ...

My return to the Xenaverse doesn't seem to be abating. On the contrary, it's actually gaining momentum. I've gone as far as re-watching a couple of episodes a week -- haven't done that in at least ... hmm... five years. (My God, I've been in this fandom for 12 years! The current generation of fans at the XOC forum was still in preschool when I was ( Read more... )

Our mind link is still there, apparently: I've been watching some Xena this week, too! :D Of course, my excuse is that watching any ep remotely connected to the Bible is a legitimate way to study for my Christianity midterm. Totally legit. :P I swear, nothing puts a smile on my face like watching some vintage Xena. I figured out that in the four years of college I've had, I've managed to relate Xena to five of my classes either as a "study aid" or as an outright assignment. Not a bad record ( ... )

Passed it a while ago, I fear -- I'd only just turned 20 when we first met. :D

You have a Christianity midterm?? So which vintage ep did you pick? Tell me it wasn't A Solstice Carol. I watched "Livia" last night -- Ares' reaction to seeing her again, and then the bacchanalia scene, get me every time. I forgive that ep every plot hole and inanity for the sheer shipper bliss of it.

Really?! I first remember meeting you in early 2001/maybe late 2000... and you would have just turned 21 then, right? Weren't you born in '79? Or am I just misremembering the years in my old age? :P

Yes, a Christianity midterm, just on the Old Testament so far. So I broke out Altared States, Giant Killer and RCOT (which is actually one of my favourite eps anyway). And I managed to sneak in an Ares mention on the exam... in my response to something-or-other about polytheism, he just HAPPENED to be the example god I used. It's amazing how that works out... not that I look for opportunities to Xenatise my classes or anything.

I'm saving all the S5 eps for closer to the New Testament exam, so I'll be rewatching them pretty soon. And I totally agree about that X/A moment, love love love it. There really is some fantastic stuff in XWP, and I keep forgetting until I rewatch it just how much I love it.

Btw, is there any Russian equivalent for the word shipper? ;-)

Oops, you're right too -- it was 2000, not 1999. I should've remembered that, shouldn't I. :D

I think the Russian word for shipper is ... shipper! At least that's what the Russian XWP fandom uses.

I have so much love for that show, and I still miss it. XWP will always have a special place in my heart, it was my first big fandom.

Btw, have you seen the new show "Legend Of The Seeker"? It's from the same people that made Xena and Hercules. It's not the same at all but I still enjoy it :)

It's not on in the UK as far as I know, or I would have definitely checked it out. The only similar show I watched recently was the BBC "Robin Hood", but the third season still isn't on.

I love Robin Hood! I'm a big Guy/Marian fan ;) I'm both exited and scared for season three, it will be interesting to see what will happen :)

I couldn't quite get into Guy/Marian, because I just didn't really like the actress who played Marian -- I felt she kind of didn't match the rest of the series and 'stuck out' for some reason. Something about a different acting style maybe. Anyway, I do like the *idea* of that ship, and I definitely like Guy.

I find I do this too, circling back to this fandom and realizing what I'd been missing. The best part is that X:WP always seems to be just waiting for me to pick it back up again.

Yeah, and I love just how flexible it really is -- you can take it seriously if you feel like it, or just enjoy the tongue-in-cheek aspect, and you have endless scope for history/fantasy/uber in the fanfic department. Love it.
