Another one bites the dust

First of all, if you haven't yet seen the end of "Robin Hood" series 3 and don't want to be spoilt, better give the rest of this post a miss.

There should be a rule against this... )

I KNOW, right? Word. The thing is, they already sent Guy away to PJ for a few episodes, so why did it not occur to them to just send him away for a while again? Guy & Allan (& Vasey & Izzy) were my only real reasons for watching the show, so I'm not sure I'll continue watching after this. Maybe a few eps out of curiosity? And of course if they bring Prince John back, I'll be all over it.

Surely they could have kept at least one of the characters I liked alive (aside from Much, but I was never watching just for him), even if it was just to hold out hope that they MIGHT come back one day.

Oh, so many missed opportunities . . . but that's what fanfic is for! Have you read Fallout by bookishy yet? It's like my RH therapy. It's G/M, but I think you would appreciate it because it's so true to the characters and doesn't gloss over character development the way that the show does.

I kinda liked Archer/Autolycus-the-second, so I would probably watch if they made another season (...but that's not the point, BBC people! Boo. Boo, I say).

Nope, haven't read any decent RH fanfic at all -- will definitely check out "Fallout". Any other recs (and links, since I don't even know where to look) are much appreciated! G/M definitely doesn't put me off, I really like the idea of it, I just wasn't crazy about the acting on Marian's part. But in fanfic, I can mentally fix her up to be a little more credible, and then it's all good.

Incidentally, how is it that you've seen the finale? Aren't you in the US?

Yes, I might check it out to see what they do with Archer, especially if I think of him as Auto 2. *swoons* That is what this show needs - Bruce Campbell!

But in fanfic, I can mentally fix her up to be a little more credible, and then it's all good.
So very true. Of course Xena and Ares are perfect, so I never have to do that with them . . . but it can't always be that way.

Um . . . *whistles* I have my ways . . .

Actually most of us U.S. fans download the episodes or watch them on YT so that we don't have to wait an eternity to find out what happens (after which we'd all be spoiled anyway). Plus someone apparently got ahold of the DVDs early (don't ask me how), so the finale was actually available earlier than it aired on BBC. It's probably good that I've already seen it, anyway, because by the time it airs here I'll probably be in Austria (I'm moving in September for a Fulbright teaching exchange).

ICON! *melts* At this rate, I'll have to start every reply to you with icon-adoration.

So very true. Of course Xena and Ares are perfect, so I never have to do that with them . . . but it can't always be that way.Yeah. Wouldn't it have rocked if they'd found a kick-ass female character as a foil for Guy? (One who wasn't his sister, for preference!) Not that Isabella was all that kick-ass, objectively, but at least she had more camp and more oomph than any other woman on the show. How is it that in this day and age shows still can't write decent female characters?? But that's a rant for another day ( ... )

I completely agree! Why did they have to kill Guy! I was not ready to let him go. It makes me so sad thinking of all the wasted opportunities :(

The show really improved this season, I think -- more humour, more Guy!Angst... I was all ready to go fangirl for it, and then it goes and ends. Up until a week ago, I didn't even realise the season was ending, let alone the show. And now they've gone and killed everyone. Not cool.

I wish the seasons weren't so darned short, at least - we needed more of a build-up to Guy & Robin's reconciliation and the finale, and I felt like Guy/Izzy got short-changed, too. But you're right that they at least did better with the intentional humor this season. "He stole my horse!" lolz. Oh, Guy.

Oh yeah, the horse! My favourite funny moment was probably Guy's "Yep" in response to Autol...Archer's comment about him being a noble with no money. I hesitate to use the c-word, but man was it cute. I know exactly why I liked it actually, it's like a "mortal Ares" moment: an unexpected burst of lightheartedness from a generally dark character. Archer got some zingers as well -- "That's an expensive sounding name!" -- and of course, the divine Prince "Long Live ME!" John ( ... )

Well I went and spoiled myself because I figured it'd take too long for me to ever get my hands on the DVDs. Oh well. If you haven't already, you should really give North and South a spin, where RA does Cravat-Angst *really* well ( ... )

Cravat-Angst!! OK, I'm going to look for it. :D

Thanks for the explanation of 'retcon', I had absolutely no idea what that was. Or rather, I can think of any number of examples of this, but I didn't know the term. Will file for future reference.
