I just got back from my first trip to Canada, where I was a guest at the Toronto Comicon! I had a great time and met lots of people and made new friends ( Read more... )

You met George Stroumboulopoulos!? Colour me jealous! 'The Hour' is one of the best current affair shows on TV! You should watch it.

Oh man! I'm so envious! You met Strombo! hahaha. I mean it, I am envious. He's a talk show host here in Canada. He hosts a show called The Hour. Tomorrow's episode features an interview with Arnold Schwarzenegger. If he knew who you were, he probably would have booked you for an interview on his show. And I mean it: the story of how you won the contest and got noticed by Goldwater and hired for a job that a lot of young artists dream about is a story that has a HUGE appeal to his show's demographic which is mostly college-aged. I'd love to watch that interview, and it'd do wonders for Sabrina sales if Strombo talks with you on his show (I mean it), so get your publicist to book that interview :)

Hmm, too bad I don't have a publicist. haha.

While reading your blog, I lived vicariously through a daydream in which the publisher of Mangaka America got you a publicist. lol, and now you crashed that vicarious daydream. haha. But no worries ... their show has a "suggest a guest" thing on their web-site, and I was so inspired by the pic of you and Strombo, that I went to their "suggest a guest" thing and presented a good case for them to contact you ... because I'm a fan and well-wisher. So if they contact you, that's why.

Hi Tania,

I got you to do the Pyro commission for me on Sunday, which I very much like. I'm glad you had a good time in Toronto, despite a few bumps along the way!

Jeez, I hope to god my husband and I weren't among the people who skipped ahead on the shuttle. The truth is, it was one of the few things that maybe could have been organized just a little bit tighter (Peter did an amazing job and I think he's one of the best organizers in comics). We'd been down for a good while, but we had no idea who had just arrived and who had been for a bit, and finally someone just grabbed us and put us in the shuttle. I never EVER would have jumped the line if I'd been aware there even WAS a line. Yikes! Now I'm all paranoid.

By the way, congratulations on all your much-deserved success. I kept seeing all these beautiful pages and sketches of yours and was mightily impressed. Thank you for the work you do, particularly as it appeals to people who are often ignored by many comics publishers!

Hope to actually get to speak to you next convention we're both at,

Gail

Don't worry -- it definitely was NOT you or your husband! ^_~ But you're right, the whole shuttle system was a little chaotic!

I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to meet formally at the convention, but thank you so much for your kind words. Coming from you, they mean a lot! I'm a fan of your work and I'm am very, very excited to see what you do with my favorite superhero of all time - Wonder Woman! Next time, I'll get over my shyness and tell you in person. ^_^

My friend halifax_slasher lost his iPod on a bus once, but the gentleman who found it looked at the addresses that Hal had taped on the device (both home and work) and promptly brought it to Hal at work, a mere hour after after he had lost it. I was quite surprised as I had long ago given up on the inherent goodness of people, but there you go. Not everyone is a big old jerk.

Perhaps you also will have a happy ending to your tale of woe. Here's hoping, anyway.

It really is nice to hear of situations like that, and to know there are good people out there... unfortunately my ipod remains missing. Sigh... well, maybe I should look on the bright side: this may be a sign that I'm meant to get an iphone! ;)

Great report! It's nice to hear an artist's perspective as so many of these con reports tend to be written by fans. :) I am very sorry to hear about the shuttle incident though! UGH.

Thank you! I also like reading reports of cons I go to. It's often interesting how some people describe their unique experiences - especially when they differ so much that it seems like they're describing two different cons!
