My dad worked on a project (probably a similar experiment) that also had an extremely small chance of unraveling the universe, but it was about ten years ago and the media didn't pick up on it nearly as much, though it was reported. Maybe it's because the rest of the world seems much more towards the brink of Armageddon anyways these-a-days that it's all over the place. This is very sad, I hope that the scientists don't feel too bad about something that is certainly out of their control.
