the raw uncompressed recording of 1-bit symphony is 160,000 times larger than the code that generated it.

What does that mean, the code that generated it?

"1-bit symphony" is a musical composition on a microchip by the composer Tristan Perich. On the chip is a program that plays back the music, along with a copy of the "sheet music" in code form.

All together the data on the chip is only 8 kilobytes in size, but the recording I made of that code is 1.3 gigabytes.
