lol. return of the asics tiger. asics was promoted in asia in the early early 80's via lydia de vega, then asia's sprint queen. almost everyone had one just to stem the tide of adidas hurricanes and the rodent-looking viennas. lydia asked asics to sponsor the whole track team (which was sucky) but asics declined. the government's monthly budget for each tracksters at that time couldn't even buy a decent track shoe. despite promoting shoe sales, lydia never got her request. she remained loyal to asics even when the tidal wave that was nike was coming along.
the tiger squeaked and screeched on shiny concrete floors, to the consternation of the teachers. the basic colour was blue over red on white shoe.
glad you brought this up co's the asics gels sucked bigtime. ;)
OH! so that's why when i was growing up... shoes would squeek and squeel on the floors. >.>;; they wore asics. but the noise dropped coz prolly ppl in the fili began to wear adidas and nike.
adidas actually was already well-entrenched during the mid-70's... =) the squeakiest ones were the very cheap robertsons... and before original nike's were marketed, itahan footwear sold knock-off nike's with i.t.h. on the soles... we called em, marikina nikes...
i kind miss the squeaky asian rubber... butterfly (for table tennis) still squeaks. =)
