Shurayuki hime 修羅雪姫

I'm excited because I have just learned that the 1973 movie Shurayuki hime [修羅雪姫] is being shown at a movie theatre here! I have never seen it on a big screen - last time was about 10 years ago and on VHS. There seems to be a growing interest in this kind of movies since the success of Kill Bill. I don't remember too much of Shurayuki hime except

Yes. There are three different Shurayukihime movies. 'Lady Snowblood' of 1973 is the movie mentioned above. It also has the title 'Lady Snowblood: Blizzard from the Netherworld' or 'Blizzard from Hell'. 'Shurayukihime Urami Renka' or 'Lady Snowblood: Love Song of Vengeance' (1974) is the follow-up or Lady Snowblood II. It's not nearly as good as the first one.

And there's even a remake of 'Shurayuki hime' under the name of 'The Princess Blade' of 2001. I have it on DVD but I didn't like it.

I didn't know Princess Blade was a remake. As I liked it, I must track down the original now.

i wouldn't doubt that tarantino saw Shurayuki hime and was inspired by it;
he used to work in a video store.
