Some of the comments below the article just left me open mouthed. The amount of people saying they didn't want to have to explain the advert to their kids. But the ad didn't have anything to do with homosexuality (see 1), so are they worried they'd have to explain about advertising to their kids?!

n.b. I think teaching kids about advertising (how rich people will lie to you to make themsevles richer and you poorer) is just as important as teaching kids that a sometimes men and women fancy each other and sometimes men fancy men, if they're happy, that's what matters (the explanation my mum gave when I was a kid - made perfect sense to me).

Borrow the DVD of the corporation for stuff about the advertising industry justifying advertising to kids as a way of making them informed consumers because kids are more knowing than we think (bunch of repressed paedophiles if you ask me).
Some folks have been jumping up and down about how they shouldn't have withdrawn the advert but then its meant to encourage sales so if there's an indication its undermining them then you'd expect them to pull it. Fluffy liberals have a poor grip on reality and think most people are broadminded and understanding and that the reactionary tabloids being the best selling newspapers means nothing. Your husband is right, respect him !!! Well okay so he's just right , most people are reactionary idiots or repressed reactionary idiots in denial which is why we don't seem to get much in the way of fluffy liberal tree hugging governments

I do feel sorry for parents. Pitted against very smart people whose (very well paid) job is to get kids, most of whom lack the undertstanding of capitalism and ciniscim needed to make proper informed judgements, to believe they really do NEED that toy (to be honest many adults lack the ability to understand that 'if you buy this your life will be better' is just a lie), they don't really have a chance.

The whole issue over the ad could well have been a marketing ploy in itself. A fairly well done but innoccious advert, now has front page advertising that would cost millions. They can be safe in the knowlege that most people will read the story and think 'really, what's the fuss about?!', but remember the product.
