media rant

Aug 20, 2006 23:21

Because I haven't posted random news articles for a while.

We are living in a state of fear, mainly created by the media. They have to make mount everest out of every tiny molehill that appears in a sick attempt to grab out attention from the other channels/websites etc. Once one channel claims to have the news of a terrorist plot, another tells us how many suspects there are to get us to turn over, then another tells us what they were armed with to get us to turn to them.
The scary bit is, it's all made up, not even chinese whispers. At least they start with a grain of truth.
But, like the heavy bass in modern music, we've become accustomed to it's ever increasing levels. If they don't shout in near sexual excitement about the fact they have the all the gory details(with live footage and reporters at the scene) of the latest mass murder/natural disaster then we get bored and turn off. The more we watch, the more desensitised we become, the harder they work to keep us watching with ever more sensationalist/graphic stories before they've even happened. The mutilation and suffering of so many innocent people has become tea-time entertainment for the rich. Brought right into our living rooms by people who seem to be on the sickening side of gleeful to be informing us of the latest tragedy.
