Mixed Media - Product WIP and Andrew Jones

Gonna divide this into 2 cuts, pick whichever you wanna read first.

First, the Airbrush compressor situation:
Brought back to auntie for repair, coz on Monday when I brought it home,

the oil was leaking from one side, and the pressure control is not working
@ when I switched on at the plugpoint, the pressure needle keeps on climbing even after I tried to turn the knob like crazy.

So wherever I airbrush, I need to continuously spray, and if the pressure gets too high, I have to switch off at the main plugpoint.

On Tuesday afternoon I brought it back to VisionArt for 2nd round repair.

But in the evening, the auntie called me and said they tested the compressor and it's working fine o____O;;
As in, the pressure control works.
I asked her about the oil leak, and she said it's nothing major, coz nothing inside exploded (yet).
And that even after the oil leak, the compressor still gives the pressured air, so technically, there's nothing wrong with the compressor o________O;;;

BUT first thing tomorrow, Ima checking it at VisionArt one last round before bringing it back
and this time, it sits on my thighs, whether the old man bising-ed or not.

OH, and I Forgot to take pic of the airbrush state, so I only got the colour pencil stage (75% complete):

...I think I overcoloured on the colour pencils =_____=;

Now all that's left is to drop in the white colour for the highlights (the tutor said use airbrush to do the white is possible...), recolour the shadows one more shade darker (purple, I think), and I'm done before CNY.

Well, hopefully.

I'm not sure what else to touch up on the background, and

I had wanted to add in the speed lines to denote the movement of the car but,
scare I'll spoil the whole thing so,
I'm leaving it till tomorrow, to let Ivan or KS see whether the move is feasible,
otherwise I'll just drop in the highlights (as ?airbrush? effect)

(I've got a reference, but it's a human running, and it's got the shadow-after-image to show movement:

Ya think this will work for the car?
Or should I just leave it as it is?)

Before I jump deep into Jones' mindscape, the brief of CK's assignment goes like this:

We're supposed to design a music album cover by listening to the music and coming up with the artwork that resonates with the music.
In other words, it's like what I've done years ago --- translating music into an artform, this time as an illustration (for the album cover).

He allows us to do any format (digital/traditional/collage/etc.), and any size (mockup up to us)
His ONLY condition is that, it should be purely illustration-based @ don't draw the musician in, don't draw anime people in (esp. those Japanese songs), and DON'T give him stiff portraits like the one we did for KS's class (CK's words).

Coz We're supposed to explore our styles and use different media to come up with the illustration --- in other words, EXPERIMENTAL ILLUSTRATION! 8D

So I narrowed down my playlist to about 4 candidates, and

after one listening session, I stuck with my old love, Yoshihiro Andoh.

Yeap, that legendary Electone player, whose music once saved me in my ID years when I translated his songs into a given space (which, now, brings back lots of memories...)

Actually, I had thought of TSPO, but I already used it for Leo's class.
Then I thought of Alexander Rybak, but I already used it for Jackie's class.
Then I considered Inculto @ the new Lithuanian ska-band with the catchy tune, [Eastern European Funk], but after going through their songs a few rounds, I realized it was quite HARD to capture their sig colours and forms.

Then, as a last resort, I reopened the old folder containing Yoshihiro Andoh, clicked on a song at random---

---and BAAAAM, a huge tsunami of long-forgotten feelings and memories washed over me.

And like the album's name, his music led me through his mindscape of sounds.

I'd see at first, green topographical lines (since his music has a form of repeated patterns),
Then I feel the space --- like, outer space/galaxy kind of space.
I actually see stars, the birth of a planet, or rather, the Sun,
In it, occasionally (depending on which song), I often see some sort of figure (I used to think of it as the human soul), at looks out into the universe and the dark skies

and as the music moves along, I feel the
effigy of a Sun God looking down from somewhere,
there's the occasional mountain and water forming somewhere in the green topo lines,
Day moves to night, night moves to the galaxy of stars,
And all this while you feel the space grow bigger, yet you don't feel alone
But you actually feel EMPOWERED

and as the music ends, You feel like you're clean inside outside, a fresher mind, a clear view of everything and nothing, and you're one with the universe.

Transcendence.

Infinity.

EPIC.

That's how I would describe it, since no one uploaded any of his clips anymore,
and the ones on Youtube where people were attempting to play his songs, JUST doesn't feel the same.
(to be honest, some played horribly. Like, no emotion. No soul, no feel. Very stiff and routine playing kills the music of Andoh.)

And according to CK, he actually confessed that, the music made him feel...a bit helpless.
Coz of the space that he feels in the music --- like he was flying.
But to him, he'd equate flying=falling, and he 'fessed to me that, he's afraid of falling, esp. in dreams.

(I had wanted to tell him about what Morpheus said about falling and flying but I couldn't remember the actual phrase of it, so I couldn't help him at that time...)

But otherwise, he find the music quite...interesting.

Anyway, long story short, he let me do it, and he proof-ed my references too.

Which is mostly Andrew Jones' works.

Most of his artworks, are one word : Phenomenal.

And to match the same epicness of Yoshihiro Andoh (well, CK admitted, Andoh's playing sounded grand to him too), I showed CK the references, and he said they do match but only I prolly need to simplify Jones' work 'coz Andoh's is quite minimalism+Zen (CK's interpretation)

The official thread containing all of Andrew Jones' work is here:
CGSociety.org - Andrew Jones
It takes a while to load 'coz Mr.Jones uploaded them hi-res, but

you'll not regret letting it load. His works, are worth the wait. It's THAT amazing.

So that's my current assignment for CK.

And yeap, it's gonna be epic alright,

but I hope the assignment don't kill me during the process.

But looking at the amount of work I'm gonna need doing............

..................................

...I should be able to do something. Right?

-------------

That's all for now, and I'll post the update about the work after tomorrow's class.
