Leviticus 24:19-21 (New International Version)
19 If anyone injures his neighbor, whatever he has done must be done to him: 20 fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth. As he has injured the other, so he is to be injured.21 Whoever kills an animal must make restitution, but whoever kills a man must be put to death

But that is old testament. In the law it was written that a woman who commited an affair was to be stoned, yet Jesus said that we don't have that authority because of our sin. The lord also says that revenge is mine.

i think the turn the cheek thing applies more to the individual, not the nation.

Even so. Do we act on an individual bases the way we should? I don't think we do, and our nation's actions reflect what we as people would do. I have been convicted some what recently, about if I love everyone the way that I should. Sean asked me one day "What if Osama Bin Ladin became a christian?" I ask that question to all of y'all, if it was sincere and honest. What would be our reaction. Do we love Bin Ladin enough to accept him, do we love him enough to pray for him? Jesus said to love our neighbors and that is everyone. It is difficult and we can only do it through Christ, but it is achievable and should be something to strive for.

right but there needs to be a realization that even if you are a christian you should still go to jail for murder hundreds of murders . . . that has nothing to do w/individual religous belief it has to do w/the way our gov.t is run. my history teacher recently asked the debate question in our class "how much should religion be invloved in government" and i for one seriously had to think about that, yes we should love our neighbors but if we neglect to punish then there is nothing that will hold our court systems together so should one religion dominate in congress heck no!! we run better as a country when there is a multitude of different outlooks now another example would be the JUDGES that were established for Israel granted it is in the old ( ... )

I do not want this to end up in a heated debate but rather a calm disscusion that we are able to express views. This is just to prevent an escalasion.
Any way, I am not saying that one does not to pay for the action that they committed, I just saying that we should love them. I also do not think that religon should be involved in our government. Its just how we should live, but again how we live will affect our government. I am not saying Jesus would ever run for president, if he wanted to do that he would have done it earlier. But that was not my original idea. It is more the idea that I think we have the wrong out look on life, and you have every right to disagree. Non-the-less I think that we need to be loving, of course, but also we need to focus on what Jesus would do.
