I agree as ever with everything you say. The lack of continuity episode to episode is just... what can you say? Its so bad its beyond parody. And you know how I feel about the donkey on the motorbike. :(
There's a very desperate tone to Merlin's loyalty this season, which I can imagine is Colin's choice, because he said sometime last season that "Merlin has nowhere to go", that he has no place, and he is now clinging to his protector role to have something to do. He's not the great Emrys anymore, he's not going to bring magic back, he's failing as a Dragonlord. That could be true - Colins taken matters into his own hands and Bradleys gone with him - theyre both playing sombre and depressed and very much Non Golden Era
( ... )
Hmm... I hate to say it, but I'm afraid that in the end, Merlin will bring magic back to Camelot. He will help Arthur unite the land and he will be the savior who brought the new era. The one the poets speak of

I know. But as I said - Im at the point now where all I want is a reveal that leaves them side by side and both Merlin and Arthur as I know them - not effing Dragoon. My hopes for something that rewarded a 5 season wait are now extinct. Im not expecting any kind of reward for fans; the best we can hope for is not to get kicked in the teeth I think.
Insert gross sobbing here. Although I guess it's still a good sign I can care enough to be sad.
I had the worst thought during the night that you'll 'appreciate'. A mash up of the two most popular theories: We will have Merlin revealed at the last minute after he's trapped as Dragoon AND he will lose his crap when Arthur dies and reset time, going back to the beginning. The final shot would be Old!Merlin/Dragoon walking back into Camelot and meeting Wart-Aged!Arthur so the J's can do their "tell the story from a different perspective"...meaning the more traditional one.
All I'm convinced of is we're getting A's death, no meaningful reveal, not one single thing I ever wanted from this show, and despite asking myself how they got this so wrong every day...I'm still boggled.
I really don't know whether it makes any sense to watch the rest of this season. It seems like the smart thing to do is walk away.

Whatever they do with Gwen, I really couldn't care less. It's not really her, therefore it's not her fault. I think she won't remember anything once the 4 episodes are done.
Speaking of things that are done. I'm one step away from abandoning this show completely.
If that's what will happen in the finalle then this entire show, every single episode of it will be for nothing. Completely pointless and the most insulting way to finish a series ever.

Well the spoilers/rumours are certainly pointing one way - to having filmed Camlann and then Avalon and then a reincarnation shot. I still cant get my head around it though - not just that they'd give such a feelbad ending at Christmas but that they'd have Arthurs reign and their destiny as basically a failure. Not only that but the Eira dialogue doesnt mention an army and Gwaine is still in Camelot. And how does Mordred go from trainee knight to leading an anrmy against Arthur in a couple of episodes
( ... )
This show is now a confirmed joke. It never really took itself seriously after all and all the "darker, more mature" banners of series 5 are just a cover, a lush front window that hides the decay inside

The fandom as a whole is really frustrated now. Even the most fanatic of fanatics, the fans with the pink glasses, are seeing the negativism all over the Merlin forums.
I'm glad they are. It's about time TPTB get the feedback they deserve in a voice loud enough even they can't pretend not to hear it.
I think that's what is bothering me though...I don't think TPTB ARE getting the feedback. How would they in this fandom? They work so hard to isolate themselves from the fans. Other than bombarding MO on Twitter...what forum for telling the TPTB that everyone's miserable is there? And is there a point when it's already in the can anyway?
I think the places they look are Digital Spy and twitter. And neither I think is very up for telling them anything other than they want to hear? All I see in responses to gushing net reviews and previews is fans saying how much they're loving it. So...
Well one of those spoilers below is definitely now making the rounds on Tumblr.
[spoiler under the cut] So, the crane shot of a road with a lorry going by, purportedly as "the final shot of the final ep" is naturally being seen as an indicator of modern-era reincarnation at the end of the show.
I really have no idea how to feel about this. On the one hand...I really didn't think they'd go there, and they could still f*ck it up by throwing in an Arwen bone, or having broken the relationship before Arthur's death so badly that it's not even resolved by A & M recognizing each other in the future. And no reincarnation moment will fix all the crap between now and the finale, or all of the other standard frustration we've been talking about, least of all the magic reveal...which may not even happen in the context of the Camelot era now.
I suggested to sforthewicked that they may play out Camlann etc in the Crystal Cave which we know Merlin goes to - to show the kiddies what'll happen - then have a good ending then have the modern twist to show it did happen amd Merlins waiting for him. Thatd actually be quite clever. I just cant believe they'll finish Arthurs reign in 3 years with nothing done. I just think even Shine aren't that perverse.
Just an observation made Im sure a million times already but maybe MO was hinting heavily on 3 November when they tweeted in one of their 'come on kiddies, lets all play a game' exercises'
'A Thousand Years ( Christina Perri), performed by Merlin & Arthur' The lyrics are astoundingly romantic I thought
( ... )
Yes, at the time MO posted A Thousand Years, folks on Tumblr were squeeing because it's something of a Merthur theme song. And yesterday folks went crazy putting it into the context of those spoilers. You're way smarter than me...I'd already forgotten about it and wouldn't have made the (now very obvious connection).
King & Lionheart I think also is a pretty common Merthur anthem, though I don't know that it's the lyrics as much as the title. :)
So bored, I end up watching the episode for some Colin fixes. Oh boy, what a surprise I had a good laugh actually. The pretentious staginess is just all over the place, not even Colin could save it for me to take anything seriously. Bradley is obviously trying hard to keep a straight face all throughout, like when Colin offered his hand for that clasp. It's painful to watch everyone's faces during Leon and Percival's duet about their dreams and the knights subsequent dedications for the Qwen. Bradley and Eoin had those "let-just-get-over-this-farce-quickly-now" look throughout the quest, I could not help but cringe. Colin as a guide dog and that obligatory klutziness? What another low.
While Gwen and Morgana did deliver somehow, I don't wanna dwell on it though as I detest to partake in manipulative and sadistic context any further.
Colin nuggets? I won't mind to have that "come on over" moment in my dreams anytime though.
