Oh yeah, how dare someone who is actually popular get in with the character he's most drawn with in fanart?
Seriously, Japanese fanartists love Asch and Luke, it makes total sense, but then they bitched when Asch got into ToW:RM2 also.
I just hate the Luke fans who hate Asch overall though. Most of the time their reason is "because Asch is so mean to Luke!" and their reason for loving Luke is because he changed so much. Um, fail to notice that Asch was a big part of that change much, it wasn't just Tear and the party.
But yeah, kinda why I'm preferring the ToE fandom more. It's so unloved that it doesn't matter who you like, as long as you like the game. Hell, your favorite can be Hyades, and while most of us wish some nasty demise for him, you'll still be liked for at least understanding what the hell we are talking about.
It's not even the Luke fans, though- it's the fans who got really obnoxious after Vesperia came out and decided that everything else in the series sucks, especially Abyss. They keep whining that Asch is a "Luke clone" and a waste of a character slot, when a) although Asch and Luke draw from the same skill pool, they can still be given different skills, and b) even though they draw from the same skill pool, that pool is quite different from the skillset most of the other series' swordsmen use, and given how swordsmen heavy this game is going to be, Luke and Asch actually diversify the line-up a bit
