I'm younger than you, I'm pretty sure, but I remember when the only clothes that would fit me were intended for women over 30. I was a young teenager at the time.
I remember half sizes. They were great when I was 13 and 5'2" tall, but when I hit my growth spurt the next year and grew 6", they started looking kinda dumb on me.
