Four years of it in high school, two years in college and tested out the wazoo in it in grad school. This stuff runs around in my brain like mice. Sometimes I even dream in it. Makes a great résumé filler, too.

2-1/2 years in 7th-9th grades. This is about all I can muster these days:

Cicero Soup

I love that passage. It means absolutely nothing, but is has been the standard for dummy text for a long time. The passage itself is a jumbled version of Cicero's ethical treatise Finibus Bonorum et Malorum. From what I remember, it was adopted in the 16th century to demonstrate varous font styles.

Congrats on making it through 2 1/2 years. Did you do Caesar's Gallic Wars in year 2?

Heck no. This was a long time ago, mind... Mostly I remember how we hated our teacher, who was (in my JR High memory) a shrewish old maid who graded so hard that even the good kids got Fs, and how we made fun of her when someone reported seeing her in a discotheque in a miniskirt. And how we laughed because "diu," which means "for a while" is also a dirty word in Cantonese (this was in a British school in Hong Kong).

So I know that it helped me with languages, but my actual recollections of class are less than scintillating.

I was kidding about the lorem ipsum, which for some bizarre reason when used for previewing fonts is called "Greeking."
