"The bridge closest to the dojo," I think to myself. "Damn it all, Jou-chan, why couldn't you be more specific? There are at least a half-dozen bridges near the dojo!"

I sigh and head for what I think is the closest bridge to the dojo and wait for Jou-chan to show up.

I just hope it's the right bridge.

The bridge closest to the dojo?

I'm not even from Tokyo! There could be millions of bridges closest to the dojo! Okay, maybe not millions, but there could be a lot.

But Makimachi Misao is not one to give up!

...especially since I see someone familiar.

I take a deep breath and start waving. "Hey! Sagara!"

There she goes again, shouting at the top of her lungs without regard for where she is or who might hear her. In a way, I've gotten used to it, but it does not stop me from tugging at her sleeve -- a pitiful attempt at restraining her, really. Restraint is something not easily found in Misao's vocabulary; after all, she dropped everything we were doing in Kyoto to come here on the strength of Kamiya-san's simple invitation.

"I think he's seen you, Misao," I tell her. "Let's hope that he has a better idea of where we're supposed to go than either of us."

"Hey, there, Misao!" I greet the little weasel girl.

No point in calling her that nickname.

Don't think Shinomori would appreciate it anyway.

"Shinomori," I nod a greeting to him. "Glad you could both make it."

Oh dear... oh dear... my pace quickens as I pass ALL of the bridges that are closest to the Dojo. What if they got lost? Sanosuke has no sense of direction even when he is not drunk and Misao-chan... she is not from around here, so she must be even more confused. It just causes me to walk even faster.... I have to find them both!

It would figure that the last bridge to check is the one where I would met up with them......

"Misao-chan! Sanosuke! Aoshi-san!" Wait... Aoshi-san? Well, he can help too! And he doesn't have a big mouth either. "I said the bridge closest to the dojo which is that-away!" I point in some random direction, hoping to cut myself some slack for my own mistake!

I nod politely. "Kamiya-san. Sagara."

Again, I wonder why I am needed here. I understand that her friendship with Kaoru has prompted Misao to take these random trips to Tokyo, sometimes without even asking my permission -- not that she needed it, really -- but I must admit that my presence is here is questionable, and perhaps even unwarranted.

Still, I turn to the direction in which Kamiya-san has pointed. The flush on her cheeks tells me that she's not as collected as she should be this morning, so I decide not to tell her that the direction she was pointing to was the complete opposite of where her own dojo lies. I suppose she has a lot of things on her mind.

"Are we staying here longer?" I prompt her. "It might be more pleasant to talk if we were seated somewhere."

"Yeah, good idea," I agree. "What's this about anyway, Jou-chan?"

Do we really have to sit down for this? I think I am getting a little nervous; what if Kenshin really is suspecting something and is spying on us close-by? No, no... Kenshin isn't the type to do that, but maybe I say that because I never caught him spying before....

"I just found out the other day that tomorrow is Kenshin's 30th birthday!" I hope I don't sound whiny or desperate here, but maybe the shock of Kenshin's age will cause them NOT to notice. "I don't know what to do. I wanted to make it special though and I need your help!"

This is what friends do, help one another in times of need? Time to take FULL advantage of that as I look at the trio of friends in front of me. I need ideas!

"Kenshin is 30?!?" I ask increduously. "Wow, I didn't realize he was so old!"
