Well, one ought to admit that some tickle the fancy more than others. Curtain is delicious because of its ultimate misdirection. It's the last book in the series. However, I keep an open mind! And I'm looking for one to read next.
Oh no no no, I have so many favorites, but Curtain is not one of them. Maybe because it's too sad. I was always glad she didn't write one where Miss Marple died.
I have almost all of hers now. Love them!! But I have grown to like them not always for the mystery, but also the characters and the romances, too.
The characters and the romances are part of what I love about her writing as well. I think Curtain speaks to me because it is sad...I seem to be drawn to melancholy. I like about it, too, that she had expressly withheld the novel until after her death. Perhaps she was reluctant to have people clamor for a miraculous revival, such as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle felt compelled to do.
Yes, I think that is definitely it. She disliked Poirot, actually. Or having to keep writing him because people kept wanting more. Have you read her autobiography? It is a great read. I think she probably also didn't want to deal with the backlash. She wrote it in the 50s, from what I remember.
I was always a Miss Marple girl myself, but I do enjoy the Poirot books. Which ones have you read so far?
Several. Murder on the orient express, The ABC murders, Death on the Nile...I think I read The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, but part of me suspects I may have simply seen it on televsion. Such is my brain!
