Q: What fandoms will/won't be eligible for Tanabata? What are the criteria?
A: The focus of this exchange is still supposed to be on small/obscure fandoms, but I do want to revisit the definition of a "small fandom". ( Read more... )

I'm not sure whether this would be better asked in a specific-fandoms post or if it's something that you want to consider before you make that post, but what about fandoms like Yuletide's sadly unfilled RPF - Heian Japan category?

As mentioned in the FAQ on our website, RPF will be eligible, so long as the people involved are actually of East Asian origins. One challenge will be figuring out which of the RPF fandoms are actually small fandoms, since there are not specific RPF categories on FFNet for us to reference, but for something like Heian Japan that definitely won't be a problem.

It truly was a tragic thing that no one wrote Murasaki Shikibu/Sei Shonagon for YT.

...you know, I don't know if I'll be eligible to participate since almost all my fandoms are ineligible.

What fandoms are you concerned would be ineligible? 95% of the Asian fandoms that are Yuletide-eligible will also be Tanabata-eligible.

I'm fairly mainstream when it comes to anime... I'm hoping you put some ten year wavers on, because that might be the only way I have enough series I'm still familiar with - problem is that I get foggy on canon after a bit. I don't really have an interest in other genres (books, boybands and RPF and such), since I only speak English and need translations before I get anywhere.
