My husband has a co-worker from Hong Kong named Edmond. Edmond has assured my husband that my intense interest in the different forms and flavors of fried dough is not only proper, but extremely educational and highly culturally sensitive. Ha ha ha ha! Outside on an asbestos pad! Deep frying scares me too. It's good stuff though...I have a student from Seoul and I just hooked him on fried dough.

I found another fried dough purveyor last night that had FIVE kinds of fried dough, including one which was a dead ringer for Navajo Fry Bread! It was a thrilling moment when I realized I had confirmation of my theory that both Hong Kong fried dough and Navajo Fry Bread have a common ancestor! The last two mornings there have been people doing a dance that looks suspiciously like country-western line dancing outside my hotel in the park. Yet another proof of ancient cultural connections between the American Southwest and China????
