Their lips met and held promise with each soft inhalation that warmed their upper lips and cheeks as they each took deep, shuddering breaths through their noses; neither pulling away and parting just kissing to kiss and touch and feel. Engaging in such a simple act of love and somber contrition with blood and bile splattering their boots and heavily soaking through their ragged pants-legs and the dying cries of friend and foe alike kneeing in the distance surrounding them on all sides was, perhaps, the only thing holding them together while everything else fell apart around them.
