Puzzle 011 - Shroomfield!

[Somehow, Luke managed to get a hold of some of those "special" mushrooms! It didn't take long before the mushrooms took effect, and suddenly Mayfield went from bright and cheery to bleak, desolate, and run-down. The streets that are usually crowded with drones are now all gone, although Luke can see glimpses of fleeting shadows.

[Riza had spent a lot of her afternoon trying to convince random people that the things they were ranting on and on about were not actually there. Most of it had been unsuccessful, so when she trudged outside to see Luke staring at the hospital like the building might eat him, she took a moment to steady herself before walking up to him and crouching to his height, gently putting a hand on his shoulder so he doesn't dart off like some of the other patients she'd encountered today, worried.]

Hi, Luke. Are you okay?

[Luke glances up at her, wide-eyed. No, he wasn't okay. It wasn't safe here. Didn't she hear the strange noises coming from inside?

He shakes his head, before attempting to walk forward.]

[She tightened the grip on his shoulder, frowning.]

Luke, relax. You're safe here.

[She's done this a few times now inside, and when push comes to shove she isn't awful with children.]

Unless you're hurt, you don't need to go into the hospital.

[Because really. More people tweaked out on whatever has them all acting strangely will not be good for him.]

C. Hospital

[Luke looks back towards the hospital, then back at Riza. He was...safe? But he could hear the noises coming from inside the hospital, and the outside wasn't that much better.

His expression changes and he looks sad for some reason. He didn't want to go in, the place scared him, but what if the Professor was inside? What if he was hurt? It was up to him to help him, right?

What should he do? He couldn't ask for help...]

[Hello small child who Kid doesn't realize he's spoken to before. Why are you attempting to drag him away?]

[Oh Luke remembers your voice. He goes to say, "It's me, Luke! We spoke on the phone, remember?" only to realize no sounds is coming out. He frantically points at himself, before realizing he has no way of telling Kid who he is.

But that didn't matter right now, it was too dangerous to stay outside. Luke will point at a nearby building and pull on Kid's sleeve.]

[Kid decides maybe it wouldn't be so awful to play into the boy's panic. Not to encourage him to panic so much as to not tell him to cut it out--obviously the kid was upset about something.]

I'll go with you, but I would really appreciate it if you would tell me what is going on first.

[Luke points at one of the "death traps", which in Luke's mind was a bear trap suspended above them just a couple feet away. To Kid, it will look like Luke's pointing at a fence.

And he's getting more frustrated by the minute. He would tell you if he could, Kid.]

[Lucas is one step out his front door for school when he's suddenly pushed forcibly back inside.]

W-Wha... Luke? Is everything alright?

[No he wasn't all right, in fact he looks pretty pale and shaken. That doesn't stop him from trying to push Lucas further into his house.

He mouths the words "stay here", even though he's not sure Lucas can understand him.]

[Lucas will blink for a moment or two before placing a hand on Luke's shoulder.]

What's wrong? You look... terrified.

[Luke shakes his head, before looking behind him. Can't he see what's going on?

Luke gently pulls Lucas' hand off his shoulder before pointing for him to go back inside.]

[Something's amiss. Something's definitely wrong with this town. But how the hell did...?

Edward's train of thought is abruptly cut off when he feels a sharp tug on the cuff of his jacket.]

Luke? What is it?

[Luke was pulling you away from a spike trap, that's what's going on here.

Luke's face is pale, and he seems intent on dragging Edward into the nearest house he can find.]

[He'll allow Luke that. He trusts the boy enough to know that he wouldn't be led into danger. But he'll stop them on the lawn of whatever house they're headed towards.]

Answer me. What's going on?

[Luke stops momentarily. This was a common problem all day, and he wasn't really sure how to convey that he can't speak and that there are death puzzles all around them.

He'll motion at his throat though, trying to somehow point out that he can't exactly talk right now.]

[Thor almost doesn't notice the frightened little boy running just below his line of sight until he's tugging at his arm with startling force. Thor stands his ground, though - a brief glance of their surroundings reveals no immediate danger, but he doesn't trust Mayfield to show him a danger he can see. He looks down at Luke, who seems quite determined about tugging him off somewhere, though it won't be in this world he manages to make Thor more by himself.]

What is it, boy? What ails you?

[Luke points wildly to a nearby tree, which to Luke looks like another spike trap, before continuing to pull on his arm.

Whatever's bothering him, he looks terrified right now.]

[...Tree? Thor eyes it suspiciously, but will not be moved. He rests a heavy hand on Luke's shoulder in an attempt to be comforting.]
