Enough with the blue, eh?

I have never been so disappointed in a painting before... It was going great until I tried to add a girl to it... and I *completely* ruined it. I'm so unhappy right now ( Read more... )

i think you're too hard on yourself -- but that's part of being a creative person, i guess

i'm not sure i see the connection of the face with the background but that's entirely your business -- they do work together as far as color/composition/value go

and the eyes: no, i don't think so

I agree the composition works, but I do see a problem with the face. Maybe it's a "style" but the perspective on the face seems wrong, maybe that's what's messed up. It looks like her head is at a 45degree profile. Her hair is, her chin is and her mouth is, and so is her nose. But then once it gets to the eyes and forehead, the perspective is all wrong. Sort of hard to describe. But basically her eyes and forehead aren't looking 45 degrees to the side like mouth/chin, instead they're flat.

You're right... Perhaps it isn't that they are too far apart at all - maybe it's just that they aren't angled. Thanks for the input!

That's why I put up two different pictures - the connection just really isn't there. It looks as if it's a really bad photoshop picture where someone put a girl into a misty background and then tried to paint from that picture *L*

Hey -- now that I have you 'on the line'... How do you go about getting things in "postcard" format? Do you print them yourself or do you go somewhere to have them made up?

Yikes girl!! Okay here is how things happened. When I saw your pic I was clapping my hands saying yeahhh, wow, cool neat. I could "feel" the fog. Then I went behind the cut and said to myself "who is this Anime asian girl". Huh. Without girl= amazing loving it. With girl= feel disconneted as to why girl is there with not top on. But it is okay. I had a bad art night last night too.

Well you know me...I my delivery sucks. But I DO really LOVE this piece. Too bad you can't cut the canvas where you cropped it.

BTW, I have a postcard printer at home. It was dirt cheap at Future shop and does pretty good cards. I think the paper costs more than the printer.

I'm going to paint over it tonight. Now the question is - Do I continue with the dark foliage type stuff.. or do I fade it out. God only knows if this is going to work.

It just seems like such a waste to leave it and hate it.

I'll look into the printer! I didn't know they had things like that! How much is 'dirt cheap'-- approximately? Remember, I'm a poor struggling recent graduate who thinks that spending $0.93 on 2 slices of toast in a restaurant is absurd! :P
