I don't understand why you are giving yourself such a hard time with your abstract work. I would suggest letting the paintbrush flow without a plan, but instead follow a thought or an emotion. The more you concentrate on it the worse it will make you feel, it might exhaust you. Abstract can be anything you Feel it right, a captured mood, idea etc.
So far it looks great, just don't force it.

Nah, I know you're right. I'm not trying to give myself a hard time -- It's just that I vowed to try it out this weekend. So, this entire weekend has been dedicated to exploration.

The beginning stages of anything new are usually frustrating. Thanks for the advice though!

You are welcome, I little strange for me to be giving advise. Oh I wish I had a whole weekend to explore.
A question why do you want to do abstract paintings?

For no other reason than to be able to say 'I've tried'...

1. I will go on walks in the future as I have never been in that part of town. Let me know.

2. I like the abstract. A good place to start. Looks like a fabric pattern for an expensive Kimono.

1. I will totally take you up on that offer!! I will warn you though, they tend to be long and have odd final destinations ;)

2. Thank you! I've decided I want curtains that look like that... in silk... with black tassles...

it's like a gypsy fabric pattern or something.

it does look like a fabric pattern... It wasn't intentional, but that's two people now who've said so!
