Another huge influence on the story was something my recipient had mentioned in an LJ post about being fascinated by people who literally create a persona to inhabit. And you successfully made me ridiculously happy by incorporating this.
Thank you so much for the fic, in person this time. Even more so now I know how much hard work it was. ^^;; Seriously, picture me making these epic hand motions of gratitude in an absence of things to say.
so glad you liked it! I had so much fun with it. And don't worry--I should have checked before I claimed the pinch hit to make sure I knew where my discs were, but I was so excited to write Jekyll cos I'd adored it when I saw it, but hadn't really thiught of something to write... And your prompt was so open, and your dear santa letter really good guidance. So it was a blast.
I am so so so glad you liked it! And I knew you were busy, please don't worry for a second. There was just so much I loved about writing it, and sneaking in bits about the real Ivor where I could. I love that this was a man on a first name basis with two PMs, and his social circle included Noel Coward and Siegfried Sassoon and Danny Kaye. And I loved trying to merge the film's Ivor with RL Ivor as much as possible, prissy adn wonderfully bitchy, and also just the kindest, sweetest man.
Rock Stars...love it. You always think things out so thoroughly and drop the most delicious details. The ending was adorable. I am seriously impressed that you wrote the whole thing in an afternoon.
I'm so glad you liked it! It's not necessarily the future I see for the Stormer I usually write about (mostly because, well, I'm pretty much in AU country there already), but it's a future that I can see for the TV series Stormer, just with an added bit of RL to offset the multi-coloured hair magical-girl aspects.... and it was fun, playing the "what if?" game.
kannaophelia wrote a sweet and lovely K/S story for yuletide as well. You should totally check it out! Love Unites Us.
I loved And Seas May Lie Between so much. It was beautiful and the amount of research you did really shows, without overpowering the story itself. It's brilliant and just...just...wow.
Thank you for your comment on my Gosford Park post. I have to say, I love the Clive Owen "Go away I'm reading" icon very much. Every time I watch that movie, I fall in love with him a little more.
Ooh and Gosford fanfic! I don't write much fanfic, but I do enjoy reading them, and I think I'll read some of the Doctor Who stuff too. After watching the Xmas special, I miss the 9th Doctor a LOT. David Tennant is becoming a pretty boy lovesick character, and he's lost that haunted, lonely, mysterious quality that Christopher Eccleston had. Oh well. I'm glad Donna's his new companion because we know (I hope!) there won't be any romantic connection.
Anyway, I think I'll friend you and I think I'll check out some of your fic!
I have a 2nd one up for grabs in the last batch of icons, I think. Check out the comm?
My original "go away..." icons was Helena from Mirrormask ,and then when I started doing GP icons, decided to keep the caption because I love how Parks always has the book with him, and just sits and reads in the servants' hall any time he's not working or flirting with Mary....
I hope if the Doctor tries to snog Donna, she slaps him. At least twice. I adore Tennant, but I really am amsued that for all we talk about the Ninth Doctor being such a Hard Man, really he's an emo pussycat next to the Tenth Doctor, who is scary as fuck with his "no second chances" mentality.
I'm really really looking forward to 4th series, after the trailer. And I hope that more new fans realise that whether or not you're a good companion has nothing to do with whether or not you're a love interest. I think that gets lost in translation, sometimes.
Ah the 4th series trailer looks SO good. Haha, yeah I bet Donna would slap the Doctor if he tried anything. And it's funny you mention the "No second chances" bit 'cos I thought "The Christmas Invasion" was the best xmas special out of the three they've aired.
Ha, true, 9 was pretty nice compared to 10. It wasn't so much that 10 was all lovey-dovey last season...that was more Martha (who otherwise was a fantastic companion). "Voyage of the Damned" was just so dull to me...it had some good lines and some cool scenes but overall, it just didn't excite me as much as I thought it would. Oh well.
Robert Parks is awesome. Hmm I think I'll have to watch the film again...been a while!
OMG Martha rocks SO HARD. I am hoping desperately that she will make the Torchwood crew magically competant by her mere presence.
As someone who watched Gosford Park through at leats a dozen times in the last three months, lemme just say that I find something new every single time. Even if it's just an overheard line of dialogue in a crowd scene, or a glance. It's like a novel you can't help but re-read every time you come across it on the shelf.
