I tried giving my boy mealworms when he was younger -- it went okay until one bit him in the face, and he's been absolutely terrified of them ever since.
On the average, though, because most worms are less nutritious than an equivalent-sized cricket or roachling, it's not really cost-effective, I think. Granted, we're talking about pennies worth of difference, but money is money.
My guy will eat waxworms sometimes. I just give them occasionally as he seems to prefer crickets/roaches. He ignored the silkworms I offered completely.
This is almost a year old but I figure a new comment can't hurt. I once tried feeding one of my tarantulas a mealworm but I think it might've bit when I turned around for a moment because my spider seemed afraid of it. Later the mealworm just dug itself into the substrate and died down there. Luckily, those mealworms were sent to me for free. I'd never bother buying them. Crickets are superior imo due to ease of catch, price, handling, and better nutrients.
When my Ts were 'slings I fed them meal worms with the head cut off.
But sometimes now they are adult size and when I go to the pet store I see the butter-worms and the like I keep thinking my how that might be like a large juicy steak to a spider. Haha! Anyway, I haven't yet bought any because they don't sell them singly but I think I saw a YouTube video where a T owner did feed their T a worm and was successful.
