Calling Out Sick

I called Alan's voice mail at the office.

I had already spoken with Denny, who assured me that someone would fill in for me.

I left Alan a message, hoping it was coherent enough with the painkiller.

"Alan, it is Tara. I won't be in for a few days. I am afraid that I had a bit of an accident. I am fine, but I need a few days off. Denny knows

After more internal debate than was usually permitted--which is to say any internal debate at all--he calls Tara back. He's half expecting to be confronted with an answering machine message along the lines of "stop bothering me, Alan," which would admittedly be a satisfactory indicator that everything was all right.

Answers the phone after looking at the caller ID.

"I am reporting this as harassment if you whine to me about coffee, lunch or files."
