The Doctor bounced into the console room, whistling a rather jaunty tune (for he had just discovered a large jar of strawberry jam when he had thought he had none) and halted, staring at his companion.

“What…what are you doing?”

The mentioned companion, Donna Noble, was standing on one leg in a stork-like manner, the other leg stretched out on the jump seat. Her pant leg was rolled up and was she was staring at her leg, prodding it, like she had never seen one before.

“I - There’s…I have muscle, in my leg,” she whispered, jabbing at her leg again.

The Doctor stared some more.

“Of course you have muscle in your leg. If you didn’t have muscle all you’d be is bones and fat - Well. That’s not true. You’d be bones and fat and cartilage, ligaments, veins, arteries, nerves and blood and organs and - The point is, how would you be able to move around without any muscles? Unless you were like that fascinating species of humanoids on Jaxslithica that actually don’t have muscles and are actually just bones and fat and cartilage and - ”

“No!” Donna said, frantically gesturing for him to be silent. “I’ve never had muscle in my leg before. Look at that…you can - ” her voice dropped to a low whisper, “You can SEE it…”

Donna flexed her leg and poked at it some more, staring in awe.

“Must be all that running for our lives thing that we do,” the Doctor noted with a nod.

Donna didn’t respond, continuing to stare in fascination at the muscle that had finally made a rather long-awaited appearance.

The Doctor backed away, deciding to leave Donna and her leg muscles to themselves.

And, he thought, he could do with some more strawberry jam.
