iPad, yay or nay?

I had no interest in the thing before, but reading up on it now, I'm defiantly a lot more interested in it. Should I bother getting one? Or should I just get a laptop instead?

If I'm better off getting a laptop, then what's a good affordable brand? Something that's not so expensive but is dependable?

I pad is really an oversized Ipod touch. If you want it instead of a laptop keep in mind when the battery goes, it's done. You can't get a replacement one at all. Also it cannot play flash video. If anything it may be really limited depending on what you need it for.

I prefer over priced Mac laptops so I might be the worst person to ask. I heard good things about the Sony Vaios though. Be leery of Dell.

If you're considering between and iPad and a laptop, even some of the most rabid iPad fans admit the iPad is not in the same category as a laptop and will not have comparable usability. I've been waiting for release day not because I'm neccessarily excited about it, but because i've been wanting to read the reviews about it. Pretty much a lot of reviews are cementing that the iPad is in its own category between phone and laptop, due to it's apparent lack in various functionality, such as lacking flash, inability using two apps at once (Pandora radio / reading a book for example), lacking a usb port which would give users the option for a tiny keyboard instead of the generally accepted 'frustrating to use for long periods of time' on screen keyboard, and though not too important but still questionable lack of a camera ( ... )
