Oh, I'd love to know what those reasons for leaving were.

So would I. We've suspected as much for a long time, especially after some of the cryptic remarks James Gunn has made, but Michael has always been so discreet when discussing the show. I think the fact that he said something now shows just how much some of those nasty remarks by "fans" got to him.

There were personal reasons why I quit Smallville that no one really knows about, that I never really talk about. It was just personal things, that I just never talked about. It was nobody else's business. But I never heard the end of it.

Why is he leaving us hanging? Now I'm curious.

I think people will be quick to say its Al and Miles but they departed when he did, he could've made a quick deal to come back if they were the reason he was leaving. Plus after Sundance, after the writers strike, I had a feeling he was open to coming back (he gave a radio interview saying that they were in talks) which was a huge change from when before that he was quick to talk about how he was leaving. I think it was the back surgery, distance from friends, family an assortment of truly personal reasons why he left.

I think you're right. I'm sure his reasons were many and varied, and probably included how Lex was being written and just not wanting to shave his head anymore, but I imagine the most compelling ones were those you mention. Those are the things that I would expect to be most important to Michael. The fact that he had to have a second round of back surgery after he left speaks volumes, I think.

Still, James has implied more than once that he personally thinks the show treated Michael badly. I can't help but wonder if that last round of negotiations before he walked away is what sealed the deal (and I'm not talking about the money).

Mostly I just think Michael wanted to make it clear that in making the decision to leave the show in the first place, and to return now, his primary motivation wasn't his ego or his paycheck. I've always admired his discretion in not gossiping about the show, but of course now people are going to speculate. Including me, obviously. :)

Lacroix has mentioned back problems several times, when defending Michael on imdb. It's hard to tell in context if by "persona' reasons" he means reasons personal to him or personal issues with the show/network.

It is. I can't help but be curious, but of course he has every right to keep his personal matters private. In fact, I kind of hate that he felt the need to explain himself at all. :(

Thanks for posting this. Some of those comments on the Zap2IT article are.....hmmm.

I hope that everything is going well for Michael now and I'm really looking forward to seeing him on the finale.

I'm so glad that Erica is getting some positive attention right now. I love that people have taken notice of how great she's been on the show. However, is it bad that I wish they had chosen a picture of her looking a little more....Lois Laney as opposed to in that silly Isis costume? LOL

Wow. There weren't any comments yet when I posted this last night. Clearly there are people in this world who live to spread hate and discontent. I think the allegations made in those comments are ludicrous, but I really don't care what the financial arrangements were anyway. That's for the agents and attorneys to worry about. :)

You just can't win when it comes to fandom and the internet. People completely surrender to their baser instincts, or say whatever they think will get them the most attention. As Tom so wisely said when asked about Superman Returns, "There were so many rumours out there, and it's the kind of situation where if you speak about it you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. I'd rather be damned if I don't."

When I turned to The Bullseye, I was pretty excited to see Erica featured so prominently, not only for her sake, but also the show's. But I rolled my eyes at the image they chose.

Me, too! His interviews are always so charged with energy and humor, and such a treat to read. I hope that eventually he'll have some set pics and stories to share.

I'm so glad MR will be there to finish Smallville. Now, if I would just catch up on it. Well, what are hiatusi for?

ED would be great in anything. A lead in an ensemble would be great for her because she's such a generous actor.

Okay, you can start catching up now. :)

I would love to see any of the Smallville actors in another show, and I will miss Erica. She's so funny and likable onscreen, and seems so sweet in her interviews. I think she'd be great in a comedy.
