Canada's
TV Week Magazine featured Smallville on the cover of their May 7-13, 2011 issue, and inside they talked with Tom Welling and other members of the cast (both past and present) about filming the show in Vancouver over the past ten years.
Most heartwarming quote from Tom:
If you go back and see some of the relationships that Clark has had with other people who are younger than him, he was always putting his hand on the person's shoulder to sort of comfort them or give them some fatherly or worldly advice. When John was [in Vancouver] for the finale, I made a point of saying, "I don't know if you know this, but it's a choice I've made for Clark to symbolize and show that Jonathan is very much a part of Clark's life.
Tom on Michael Rosenbaum:
I always thought Michael's take on Lex was really interesting. He said, "Who says Lex is the bad guy? Maybe Clark is the bad guy. Maybe Clark's the one screwing everything up, but no one's figured it out yet!" Michael had a lot of integrity with his character, a lot of moral statutes that he was adhering to.
Tom on Christopher Reeve:
I don't even know if you can really call Christopher Reeve just a guest star, because he was so much bigger than that. That was such a wonderful, inspiring, fantastic experience to be able to go to New York and be able to shoot with him. I couldn't even believe it. I was in shock the whole time.
Most intriguing quote from Tom:
I love the whole process of producing, directing, writing and acting. Through 10 years on Smallville, I've learned a little bit of each, and I want to take that, go forward and hopefully continue my career in all of those areas. I think I'll always be an actor first, but I love telling stories. I think you can tell stories and express emotion in all four disciplines. That's what I look for.
Tom wants to write?! I just love the way he expresses himself. All these recent interviews have been an incredible gift to his fans, and have gone a long way toward easing the pain of knowing that once Smallville is well and truly over, we're not likely to see him again for awhile.
