Has Sitaan discovered the nature of the barrier yet? My stalking fu is weak this week.

Stiaan was aware of the barrier the moment he arrived. He's the most metaphysically sensitive character I have, and it's really, really hard to miss. He just has no desire whatsoever to leave camp since Mikah's here (and he's fairly sure that he'll return around when he left, given all the timefucking going on here). He's showed up at barrier posts, but he's always very careful not to meddle -- he doesn't want to accidentally open it.

Morrolan shows up in the Barsburg church, probably in a shower of golden sparks, having received a leave of absence from the Empress which permits him to deploy himself and his personal guard at his sole discretion on other worlds. How does Castor react and/or use him?

Castor deploys Morrolan and his guard to back up Teito in going after Ayanami as fast as possible. Specific details are hard because we don't have much of a map of what's been happening recently, but basically I think they'd be moving from the Barsburg/Raggs border.

What are Ivy's three most useful bits of knowledge?

--Ivy's very grateful she knows the mechanics of human reproduction, because it saves her countless awkward moments growing up. Kincaid tried to give her The Talk as a joke; when she started calmly discussing comparative technique, he gave up because he couldn't breathe for laughing.

--She likes calculus and higher math. It's neat and ordered, and being able to compute things in her head saves her a lot of time.

--The nutritional information of food is useful, since she can precisely calculate her diet and allocate room for cookies.

Castor's three favorite non-theological books?

Do you have any predictions for The Archive's development in the series?

Reply

tarnished_salt September 30 2008, 00:32:22 UTC
Hmmm. She's obviously getting developed as a recurring character -- instead of Creepy Girl Who Likes Cute Things, she has a backstory and a full personality now, as well as a definitive attachment to Harry. I also note that we've been ramping up to apocalyptic directions for a while, with the Red Court war machine and the Outsiders and the Black Council starting to move openly (and the traitor in the Council going on the offensive, if the latest book is what I think it is.) The purpose of The Archive is to preserve human civilization in the event of an apocalypse. I'm starting to wonder if we're going to see her responsibilities conflict with her loyalties to Harry -- or if she's going to be called on to fulfill her primary function ( ... )

I don't think that it's the Merlin, simply because he is the Authority Figure McDouche type of character that we're supposed to suspect because he just plain isn't likeable. And Butcher is more subtle than that (hahaha HARRY'S MINDWIPE ( ... )

....you know, that makes sense. Also note, although I doubt Butcher would make things this obvious (LOL MINDWIPE god that was beautiful), that the Gatekeeper is noted for going around in a hooded cloak, so that his face is rarely seen. And who else, I ask you, is noted for this? Yeeeah ( ... )

....MAYBE? Mukuro....hmm. Morrolan...sees him as someone to be careful around, a potential threat but one who isn't actively threatening, if that makes sense. Mukuro hasn't either triggered his interest in a positive or negative way, so it's mostly...curiosity, recognition that his planning may eventually draw in people Morrolan cares about, and caution because the type is familiar.

OTHER CHARACTERS OF YOURS HE HAS MET include Aeris whom he quite likes, and I regret that I fail so hard at actually following through and tagging her.

....yes, we do, I love it when we do that. Also you should come touch the new kid, he likes it and seems to be my spamwhore.

UM QUESTION. What would TYL!Mukuro think of Tara?

OKAY i will try d>:

... HM that's hard. Because TYLMukuro is a lot more positive and cheerful even though he's ... in a way more of a fucker because now he's totally a far more balanced individual and doing it for the LULZ among other such jackass things (I ASSUME HE GETS LESS FUCKED UP. IDK MAYBE AMANO WILL BE LIKE O WAIT NEVERMIND HE JUST SPIRALS DOWN MORE INTO CRAZY O WELL)

He wouldn't mind her. They'd probably settle into more of a banter and less of a... well him really wanting her to die.

UMMMMMMMMMM. If you could top me into apping someone for the next 3 rounds I can app (I CAN APP 3 IN A ROW 8DDDDDDDDDD) who?

I LIKE THIS QUESTION BUT IT IS HARD TO CHOOSE. Um. Sadly I have very few campers who I think would suit you, so I will forbear and triple top you into a counselor. 8D (Though I would love to see you play Soujirou in camp, um.)

Counselor: Sethra Lavode. She is AWESOME AMAZING from Morrolan's canon, generally on the side of People We Like (his canon doesn't really do the whole absolute good or evil thing), is feared throughout the Empire, does that whole Mysterious and Cryptic thing and plays conversational games, plans very, very long-term and complicated, and is a magnificent badass. There are honestly very few people I'd trust to play her because she's godmodey and has a LOT of influence on Morrolan, but you're one of them. Also, she's a vampire.

SAME QUESTION BACK although it is probably a lost cause, since I fail at apping very hard.

Who from his world would Morrolan like to have come to camp the most and why?

Reply

tarnished_salt September 30 2008, 03:45:12 UTC
Uh. Lady Teldra, because he misses his majordomo/etiquette instructor/high priestess/general topper of everything, dammit. Vlad and Aliera get second place, though he'd never admit the latter. The Necromancer comes in third. He'd be happy to see Sethra but would be worried about the Empire even if he knows time isn't passing, likewise the Empress.

Under what circumstances would Shunsui fight back to back with Morrolan?

Reply

spring_spring September 30 2008, 22:23:42 UTC
Teldra~ ;;

...pretty much any situation where he found it necessary to fight to protect people/stop something nasty/etc. While he's rather reluctant to draw his swords unless necessary, once he's decided to fight he's not really very picky about who happens to choose to fight alongside him. And despite Blackwand pinging him in unpleasant ways just by her nature, Morrolan is obviously of fairly good character, so. Basically any situation bad enough for him to be fighting in the first place. Although for that matter, I imagine if Shunsui and Morrolan had reason to fight together, they'd probably end up working together quite well.

Speaking of Imperial time, how does Morrolan's link with the Orb work in camp, exactly?

I blame the barrier! It's also how he knows time isn't passing -- the Imperial Clock is frozen ( ... )

Tell me why you think we only get (1) evil and (1) neutral when we destroy an angel that is (1) good.

tarnished_salt October 1 2008, 22:31:16 UTC
Partially, I think that's because Jesse is a little inconsistent with his metaphysics in this series. XD What's actually happening, as far as I can tell, is that you start with an intelligence formed from the interaction of divine will with astral substance; this being is called an angel, and is usually but not necessarily "good." (I'd really rather not see an angel brought into being by one of Astaria's impulses.) An angel exists to fulfill the specific divine directive which brought it into being; it's not connected to the will of Heaven after its creation. Then you sever the part of it which is capable of independent action -- the part which decides how to enact divine will, and which Magda claims may or may not be capable of free will itself in itself -- from the part of it which is purely astral. The free-will part becomes a Mara, new-born and childlike as it attempts to develop its own means of making decisions for the first time. The astral part becomes a demon; bereft of purpose or any means to determine it, it becomes ( ... )

See I saw it different. Or I read it different. Magda- "An angel may have free will in small matters -- there are questions about that -- but it can’t oppose the will of heaven. Its matter is the will of heaven, and it can no more disobey the gods than water can run uphill." It also takes the will of all the gods to create them. So they're sort of more for the greater good than specific goals ( ... )

I think the difference in our reading is this: as I saw it, any god can create an angel, rather than it requiring all of them. (Because really, can you see Astaria creating an angel for the greater good? I guess maybe if they bribed her.) The reason I pegged demons as having no free will is because Mikah says "The Mara must provide the element of will, since a demon has none."

I think it's possible for Mikah; I'm not sure Stiaan would have forgotten the fact of it, since he's supposed to be very, very selective in what he deletes. (In fact, Mikah knew he'd be in love and forgot, so I'd say it's more than possible.) I get the impression that Stiaan hasn't ever really fallen in love, or had relationships with many people, but Mikah had; Rema was an exception designed to waste Astaria's time in a harmless manner, and while Stiaan probably felt some affection for him during the relationship god knows why, I wouldn't call it love by any means. I think that real romantic love is something he's never felt, but that Mikah has (they don ( ... )
