Jeez, iTunes, can't let a woman share her songs in peace, huh?

Aug 22, 2007 21:47

This might be asking the impossible here, but does anyone out there know how to, um ... de-protect songs bought from the iTunes store so that unauthorized computers can play them? I wanted to share some songs, but just finally realized (tech genius that I am) that anything I've bought from iTunes can only be played on my authorized computers, or ( Read more... )

music, lois lane, barbara gordon, real life, the flist knows everything, superman, comics

Thanks for the point in the right direction, Kim! :D tmelange says she knows how to do the format converting, so I'll ask her for more details. :)

If you're like me and burn off the songs you actually pay for...you can burn them back to your HD, and they go back on as MP3.

I should be doing that, since I know if my comp crashes I'm going to lose a lot of music ... but I keep putting it off. :$ In any case, thanks for the tip! I hadn't realized that the protection comes off when you re-rip the songs. This can be extra motivation for me to save my precious, non-pirated music now, lol.

Oo, now I have more comics to add to my list... those all sound really wonderful.

I don't know how to remove the protection either, but one time when I burned the files to CD and then re-ripped them, it worked! Try that maybe?

Yay! I'm pretty sure you'd love Unconventional Warfare. The Clois is cute and sweet and angsty and very moving all at once. There's still a fair share of the obligatory "Superman gets in a knock down drag out fight with a meta" type stuff (I'm not usually the biggest fan of that ;p), but it's balanced out well by the character touches. There's a cliffhanger at the end, though! I need to find out what comes next, instead of continuing to read backwards in time, lol ...

And Batgirl: Year One is just a pure gem, especially if you're a Barbara Gordon fan. *grin* It's more a coming-of-age story than a superhero story. It's a little hard to follow at points since it jumps around a lot between the present and flashbacks and flash ... forwards, lol, but that's a minor quibble really. ^-^

And Godfall is cool, too! But the first two are the ones I'd really rec. :D ( ... )

Are you on a Mac? If so, I'll give you instructions. If you're on a pc do a google search for "convert m4p to mp3". There are a couple of Windows-based programs that will convert for you.

Let me know your OS and I can help...

Yes, I am on a Mac! Thanks for the offer to help. :D If you have instructions for file conversions, that would be awesome!

There used to be a couple of different ways to do this on the mac, but now there are almost no easy way to do it. In any event, do you have iMovie? Using iMovie is almost the only way to do this conversion nowadays ( ... )

If you don't have iMovie, let me know and I'll upload it for you.

Hmmm *rummages through computer* Looks like I don't have iMovie, so I'll take you up on the upload offer if you get a chance to do it. If you can't, though, that's cool; I'll just try one of the other options you mentioned. :) In any case, thank you sooo much for taking the time to explain the conversion process and point out the websites with the instructions and what not. I'm really lazy when it comes to figuring out computer issues on my own, lol (I need to work on that!) so you've been a HUGE help! :D

Babs being a frustrated recent-college graduate who is scared of never achieving her aspirations, and who is struggling to follow her own path in spite of what others want and expect of her. Because hasn't everybody been there?*rises hand real high* Not graduate yet!! but scared and struggling!! wooo! I have something common with Barbara Gordon! Babs is probably my favorite female character in the DC universe, along with Selina, except I like to think of my Selina as not-a-prostitute. Can't a girl just decide being a cat-burglar who dresses up as a cat is more fun than being anything else without tragedy? I mean. I would decide that too in a jiffy if I saw superheroes and super villains around... ....that's not crazy at all, I say ( ... )

This is why I should never try editing my comment replies ... because then I end up sending them three times *facepalm*

I have something common with Barbara Gordon!

Woo! I know! If even the Barbara Gordon, aka awesomest woman in the world, went through growing/transitioning-into-the-real-world pains, then they seem ... much less frustrating and more like a fact of life. And they are a fact of life! but ... apparently I need fictional characters to remind me of that. *grin*

And Selina rocks hard! I remember seeing a storyline about her over at scans_daily where she was exposed to Scarecrow's fear toxin, and it turned out her greatest fear was being dependent on others. That was just ... too cool for words. She's like Alfred, she just ... can't go wrong. *grin ( ... )

Mroooowww! sis! how's the apartment search going?

Finding an apartment anywhere that stays under our budget, isn't horrible and we can find it despite not having time to look for it is impossible anywhere, I'm afraid. I'm helping a friend find a house here, and we're falling very short at the task :S

I hope your search is going better! Drag your pal into LJ land! now that he'll be in SF having him read your LJ might be less embarrassing -don't know if you find it embarrassing or not, but I always feel silly when RL people read my journal :P

I will post pictures of the office kind of set up in a bit! woot!

The apartment quest is ... on hold! Whee! The guy we're subletting from extended our lease until December, so we're staying put for now. \o/

And how's your friend's house search going? I hope your luck is improving with that! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you guys. ^____^

don't know if you find it embarrassing or not, but I always feel silly when RL people read my journal :P

*nod nod nod* I do, too! I'm quite relieved that most of my RL friends don't read my journal-or even know of its existence, lol. But Nick (the friend who went to SF) is actually already one of the RL people I'm not afraid to show my journal to. He's usually very indulgent re: my obsessions and he's gay, too, so not weirded out by the slash. :PI don't think there's actually much hope of getting him involved with LJ anytime soon, though, lol ... he's really active in online video game forums, and as I'm sure you know, it can be tough to coax people out of their internet niches once they've settled there. ^-^ Oh well. I can dream. XD ( ... )

*hugs* Sorry for not being any help, but I don't have an iPod so I stay the hell away from iTunes.

I'm a Winamp pirate, y'ar!
But if you're looking for specific songs, maybe I can get them for you in .mp3?

*hugs back* No worries! I've already got plenty of suggestions. :) Now I just have to get off my lazy butt and try them, lol.

And I don't have an iPod either. I don't even own a Mac (although the computer provided by my job is a Mac, and I spend more time on it than the PC I have at home). I got iTunes at first because, when I lived in the dorms, everyone was using it to share music on the local network. From there, I got hooked. :P

Winamp is pretty awesome, too. Woo! *fist pump* :D

But if you're looking for specific songs, maybe I can get them for you in .mp3?

Thanks for the offer! I'm going to try some of the ideas the flist had first. If nothing else works, though, I might have to take you up on that. *grin*

I can't always find what I want, but it's usually 80% success.

If you can find a copy of Dirtmitt's "Ordinary Day" for me, I'll be very happy. :3

Success! Found it in the iTunes store. :D Still haven't gotten around to trying to de-protect my songs, though ... hopefully I'll get off my butt and do that this weekend, and then I can send "Ordinary Day" off to you if you are still in need. ^-^
