dealing, cutting a deck

I had a book tell me to say "mother maidan crone" and deal out the deck 3 ways first and I was wondering how other people shuffled/dealed out the cards. I shuffle til I feel it is right and then now I just deal, instead of cut it a certain way.

I believe the "mother maiden crone" thing is related to a specific spiritual belief system or religion... possibly several... I'm not certain which and don't want to disrespect any by guessing, but as it's not a belief system I follow, and as Tarot is not a tool whose "rules" either encourage or forbid use by anyone of any spirituality, I shuffle and deal in whatever way I feel most comfortable with my cards.

Seems to me the most effective way to go about it is to do the same. As long as whatever you're doing WORKS for you, it's a fair assumption that no force beyond mere humanity can have any objections to it.

...your mileage will vary.
When I shuffle, I generally use a basic "riffle" shuffle (Yeah, I had to look up what it was actually called, since "traditional" means different things to different people). I'll shuffle the deck three times, thinking/concentrating on "Clear," mentally repeating it to myself as I shuffle.

If I'm doing an online reading, I'll shuffle the deck three more times, concentrating on the username of the person I'm reading for, otherwise I had the person the deck and ask them to shuffle it three times in whatever fashion they're most comfortable with (that won't ruin my cards).

It works for me.

I shuffle until I feel ready, cut the deck four ways in a cross shape first, pick those up (going clockwise the whole way), then lay out three piles, right to left, and pick them up again.

I usually cut with my left hand.

i shuffle til it feels right. if i'm reading for someone who is there with me, i have them cut the deck. otherwise i just deal.
