Help with a reading?

My friend just gave me a reading while trying to teach me how to read the cards. I bought this deck with art that I really liked and have never really used it for a formal reading, more for .meditating on single cards or sort of "playing around" with simple spreads and a combination of meaning descriptions on a tarot app on my phone and my own ( Read more... )

I have a deck which depicts the Five of Cups as missing someone. You're considering teaching English abroad, so I would say this means that, in spite of it being a wonderful experience, you will strongly miss some people who are important to you.

Thanks. That's definitely something to consider. That does sort of make sense.

I guess it was just weird to me that it was in the kind of top position. I'll have to consider this more.

The Five of Cups can mean that even as you focus on mourning the loss (or waste) of something, you still have other untapped resources available to you. So I usually interpret it as meaning a minor loss or setback, perhaps one that will rock you back on your feet, but it won't be especially meaningful in the long run because you still have support, strengths, or friendships to fall back on.

Interesting.

Thanks for this explanation. It definitely gives me more to think about.

Honestly, if you're thinking it'll be a trying and frightening experience, maybe the 5 of Cups is reminding you that if you dwell on that, that's what you'll take away from the whole experience. We make or break our own lives with our perspective - yes, it'll certainly be difficult, even trying. But remind yourself of the reasons you're going into this, and it'll give you strength and lightness of heart, even in the face of adversity. Don't be so absorbed in the negatives that you turn your back on the positives in your life / situation.

Thanks so much for this.

This actually really, really resonates with me and makes a lot of sense in the context of the rest of the cards.

Thanks again.
