Severus, The wards were breached and Death Eaters came though. I do not see how we can possibly go back, now. The location of the safehouse is compromised.

That is different, Severus. Of course I am planning on returning there - assuming the war turns in our favour. At the moment I see no evidence of that happening. I will not compromise the safety of my students.

The safety of your students is all but illusory. Hogwarts is evidence enough of this. No matter where they go, there is always a potential threat and this will not change until every loyal follower of Voldemort is dead or incarcerated. If we are able to determine the cause of the ward weakness at Kippenross, and can ensure that it cannot be repeated, there is no reason to believe that it is any less safe than the other safehouses. By once again reducing the available space and facilities, we enforce the idea that the students are trapped here. Eventually there will be sufficient discontentment and discord that the situation becomes untenable

I know what you are saying, Severus, and I agree with you in principle. However, I am not willing to play fast and loose with the safety of my students. One day we will reclaim Hogwarts. When that day comes, we will be moving from a position of strength. That does not mean we should all expect to move back there next week and hope that our wards protect us.

Hope has little to do with anything. If the wards are sufficiently well-made, then we will not need to hope. How can we imagine that the other locations are any safer, if not because we trust our wards? We should go back into Kippenross and make it secure. If the post portal is our vulnerable spot, then close it up and we will find another way to convey messages to the outside world. It must be just as vulnerable if we relocate it to one of the other sites. Either we will be in two safehouses without post, or in three.

Perhaps you can reinforce to Minerva the fact that in order to have compromised our wards, their attack must have been protracted and insidious. A direct attack over a relatively short time is likely beyond their capability, as evidenced by their need to retain your services to break into my home.
The portkey that you gave me allowed me to take Mr Visconti and Miss Patil to Thorne and Poppy without delay. That makes us even.
