Floo powder rationing is going very well, all things considered. The pupils are, for the most part, behaving very responsibly.
I'm a bit worried that, should an evacuation be necessary, there will not be sufficient floo powder at all available where it is needed. I know that keeping a "just in case" stockpile is impractical, but I am wondering how we all get out in a hurry?
Is anyone working on a portkey solution? I suppose we could keep them safely warded at a nominated evacuation station in each location. We'd probably need a rota of Order members to be on standby to able to release the keys in an emergency (and collect them again of course). I'm also thinking we probably need to do some training with the prefects to get them able to assist with the evacuation. I don't know if an actual evacuation exercise would send a bad message to the pupils, but it's something to consider.

Ah yes, the floo situation. I knew there was something I meant to mention, thank you Ernie.
It is becoming increasingly likely that we will run out of floo powder before very long. If we are lucky we may have a few weeks left, at most.
I had been looking into the possibility of setting up apparition sites at each safe-house, but the risks to security were proving to be too great for it to be practical. Therefore, port-keys are the best solution available to us.
I like your idea of a warded place to keep the keys, with a rota of guards. The job could be given to prefects and ex-students still living at the safehouses, as well as to any Order members who have the time to help. Perhaps you would like to organise this? You will need to find suitable locations at each safehouse for the keys to be kept, sort out the rota, and of course you will also need to source and enchant many items to use as keys. I am confident that you will find plenty of willing volunteers to help with the charms work.
I took a trip out with Maggie the other evening to look at the mist. Didn't go as far as the Channel though.
It's still there, but you can hardly see it. All down the coast, about three miles offshore, faint, greenish tinged wisps. The muggle fishermen all seemed to be working normally.
So either it's a special effort for the Channel, or it just takes too much power to keep it going. Probably worth keeping that in mind for timing any operations. If the enemy are directing a lot of power at the barrier, might be an easier task for us to get in to Hogwarts?
We went across the central belt to look at the east coast. Same story there, just a wisp. Funny thing though, although it was late evening, there were no lights on in Edinburgh or Glasgow. Wonder what's up there?
Didn't go through it, although it didn't seem to be giving the muggle fishing boats any problems. I don't mind going back and flying low though, if you think it would help us know more about it. I was really just checking the extent of it, and, by the looks of things it has Britain surrounded.
It's certainly possible to fly over it right now, but I reckon we'd need to see it at full power to see how high it reaches then.
Seems to me, that to maintain that kind of a circle, there must be Death Eaters stationed at intervals around the coast. Might be worth flying overland and taking a look for them if they set it of fully again, rather than risking the barrier.

It is a good thing that you did not attempt to fly through with your dragon. If her mind is affected by the mist I do not like to think of the consequences for you.
Mr.Malfoy's last report to the order was very revealing. I think the energy is being manipulated from the ley lines. Light and dark, order and chaos, these energies flow through the land. Some places have auras and levels of background magic. If the natural flow could be altered, disrupted, the build up of power could be substantial. This energy could in theory be woven into wardings? Perhaps somehow this has affected the muggle cities? I do not know. I had not thought this through before I started writing here, but it seems to fit. I cannot imagine how else this much dark energy would be produced, to ward an entire country. If you attract Chaos in this way, then you pay a very high price. I think the consequences of getting this wrong would be dangerous. Very very bad.
And I think I have just figured out how to find out where the nodes are, but there is no way

As I'm sure you could tell by watching the map in the war room, Hogwarts is more crowded with Voldemort's minions than ever. It was very difficult for me to get from where I came into the castle down to the ground floor where I could get to Albus without being seen. It felt as if there were twice as many people roaming the halls as there were in the fall, and they were actively searching for me then.
It took only a moment's awareness of my presense to activate a strong response,in the air and on the ground. Within the castle, there only seemed to be Death Eaters. I didn't venture out into the grounds, but I would guess that the werewolves are being kept out there exclusively now. There were a very large number of Harpies in the air. I didn't run into any Dementors though. Thankfully! The Harpies were quite enough. The castle itself seemed in worse condition than ever. Many of the walls are crumbling. The main staircase is completely dead. The entire place has a feeling of gloom and decay to it

This is quite a grim picture, Remus. Of course it is possible to see these things on the map, but so much more useful to have a first-hand account. I am sure that I speak for all of us when I say that I am very glad that you returned to us safely.
Locked to Remus.
I will pass the message on, of course. I believe that Albus still reads these journals, so it is possible to contact him here if the need arises, however, due to the strong and conflicting magical forces that surround him, the muggle device is not always as reliable as it could be. On a positive note - I think Harry has rather more appreciation of what teaching involves now, at least.

You and I both know that this has nothing to do with any chill you might have developed. You are stronger than that. Perhaps you are convincing yourself, but you cannot fool me Severus Snape.
I am glad that you are feeling better today. Are you feeling up to company this evening?

Damn.
That ... was me, Headmistress. I suggested some of the changes I've been trying to the basic hex-grenade design in my last report - with the aid of Fred and George Weasley - and I was tested some new designs.
I miscalculated the power of one. Only light and noise effects, and it's unlikely to have attracted any local attention past the veritable misplaced new-year's those two were setting off on the other side the other concealment methods.

Apology accepted, Miss Archer. I appreciate that your research is valuable to the cause. Nonetheless, perhaps it would be prudent to notify the other residents of Thorne, the next time you might be experimenting?

Did you experience any strange effects? See any things that were not there?
Would you say that it is possible to fly over it?

As I said at the time, I contracted a mild chill during my recent outing to Hogwarts, and you know that I have developed a resistance to Pepper-Up.
I feel much better today.
