what do you make of religions which force a similar ideal upon their followers?
i know you disagree with religion in general, but i think what costello said has a lot to do with religion. why do some religions advocate polygamy?
i think he was doing the "multiculturism is the death of society" thing except instead of explicitly stating that some social groups are having more children than others, he was trying to inspire anglo-australians to have more children. costello and the liberal government fear a non-anglo australia.

You should read the Quarterly Essay for this quarter, In His Master's Voice by David Marr(I have a copy i can lend you, if you want). It's essentially discussing the restrictions the government has placed upon the Australian people and the apathetic response of well, pretty much everyone. It's well written and has a great deal of evidence, which i know i'm always keen to have backing my arguments up, lol.
