I get that. I hope you like it! (Hell, I hope I will, too.) I didn't think I'd like the TV show for the longest time, but once I tried it, I really loved it.
For me, it's not entirely that it's a sacred cow--more like I think a reboot at this point is really unnecessary.

There are still people in a snit over Battlestar Gallactica but that turned out *very nicely* in my opinion. There was a period of 23 years between the end of the first franchise and the proposal of the new series... it will be 18 years between the 1992 movie and this movie/tv show proposal, plus however long it takes to develop.
If you showed the Buffy movie or tv show to a teen today, it would be hopelessly dated. Media becomes dated more quickly as advances in technology get closer together. Much of the intended audience was either not born or not even in school when the movie came out, so to them it is all new.
Yeah, I heard about this awhile back but thought the bad reaction to it had killed it. Sadly, I'm wrong.
All I can do is hope the fans of Buffy band together to protest this. Because the entire idea of Buffy in high school was the POINT of Buffy. Forget about it being a TV show or a movie - there will be no Scoobies, no Giles, nothing.
And Buffy won't be in high school but will be sexy? What is this, Nikita meets Twilight?
Bad bad bad move. Just because there's vampires doesn't mean it's going to be any good.

Not having Joss on board is just icing on the cake of probable suck. But I'll give it a shot. I'm morbidly curious like that.
