I love that he didn't ask for help and assumed he could handle it himself. Was he worried about getting into trouble for some reason?

I don't think so. He kept telling me that he almost had it. That if I hadn't come along he'd have been just fine. Totally not true by the way. I struggled to get that freakin handle back on. He'd gotten things mightily twisted. But the boy sure is confident.
