Best of Tom & Michael, 2017

Jan 01, 2018 18:40

So another year recedes...can't say that 2017 was one of my favourites. There was political upheaval and personal loss, but there were also a few currants in the cake: getting to travel a bit, meeting up with Michael-pals at two conventions, regaining my mobility after last year's broken ankle. And of course there was THIS, ie the GREATEST THING ( Read more... )

Those two goobers! If Michael had ever realized how amazing and attractive he is, he'd maybe be unbearable. As it is, I always want to hug him and tell him he's, well, amazing and attractive.

I didn't know Tom was in another series! That's good. Not having a tv kind of limits my awareness of what's happening. :D

Cult? Allison is in a cult?!

Happy new year, D.!

Alas, yes. For many years, dating back to when SV was still airing, and said cult was recently profiled on 20/20. More info here:

Tom is very lovely on "Lucifer" (which is a fun show in general - based on the DC comic about the devil becoming a detective in Los Angeles.)

He's precious <3

I'll go read that article. Sorry to hear about it, though. She seemed so smart and perky. Looks like maybe Kristin was the one to watch, after all.

Michael does seem to be just one really great guy. I haven't met him, as you have, but it shines through. :)

Kristin was part of the cult too, along with her boyfriend at the time - but fortunately managed to extricate herself back around 2010 or so. This cult was targeting women in Vancouver, where SV was filmed.

I still hope Allison can get free but it's been 10 years for her now :(

2017 has not been a good year overall (with the current leadership in my country, I fight despair on a daily basis), but it has been a dream come true for Tom fans. A new show, lots of new pics and interviews, an active social media presence, and of course, The Podcast. No one but Michael could have given this to us, and it was a delight from start to finish. I am forever grateful. Love how the boys still look at each other, and the dueling ARMS, in your pics ( ... )

Butting in to say that it was rumoured to be the skinny dipping scene in Slumber where KK had a problem. Katherine Isabelle (guest star for that episode) has talked about her disgust with a director on a tv show she worked on calling out an actress for not wanting to show skin on camera, making comments like ‘do you have a wart on your butt or something, you have a great body, what’s the problem’. She didn’t name any names, but it was widely assumed by SV fandom that she was talking about that particular scene by the lake where Kristin was using a body double for the close-ups of Lana taking off her t-shirt etc

Yep, that's exactly the scene I was talking about!

Tom's increased visibility has been a saving grace of 2017!

No one but Michael could have given this to us, and it was a delight from start to finish. I am forever grateful. Love how the boys still look at each other, and the dueling ARMS, in your pics!I'll be checking out KK's new show. I've always found her to be thoughtful and articulate in interviews. I can only imagine what she has faced over the years. I remember reading about how the director of Nicodemus was awful to KK during the swimming pool scene, is that the incident you're talking about?
I meant "Slumber" as Frelling details below, but Nicodemus was actually worse because KK was only 19 there and Lana was supposed to be 15! I always felt that the episode wasted an opportunity there, with Lana such a passive character. Nicodemus should have been a chance for some of her underlying anger to come out, but no, it's all sleazy-producer wish fulfillment.

In hew new show, she gets to play a tough lawyer and she looks fabulous and professional!

I look forward to Michael's ( ... )

Interesting, thanks for sharing that interview with Kristin :) Not wanting to point fingers at anyone in particular, but honestly it did always sound like a *lot* of the men who worked on SV were drooling over her, and it was really inappropriate considering that she was only a teenager when she started on that show. I remember there being a lot of talk too about some photo shoot that she was set up for early in season 1, and she ended up in tears over the revealing clothing that she felt pushed into accepting because she was too intimidated to just call the shoot off altogether

And I didn’t realise that Allison’s Family were involved in the cult as well, what a shame :(

The commentaries of S1, the producers slavering over her, is hard to listen to. All the other actors, they praise their talent, their energy: with KK, it's just her beauty, repeatedly.

Yeah, that's a bummer of a story and all too common, I expect. With her new show, she gets to pick her own wardrobe and looks great in the previews!

Interesting interview with KK - I always found it eyerolly that the producers went on about how beautiful she was all the time but it must have been hella creepy for her to have to deal with and with sleazy directors too.

Yeah :( Not fun for a 19 year old girl to be coping with that. At least there's no indication she wasn't comfortable with her cast-mates: she still hangs out with Michael when in LA, always praises Tom and acted opposite Eric J in a play here a few years ago.
