did he actually ask you to vacuum and tidy up for his guest?
I used to have a roommate that thought vacuuming everyday was a great thing (course he was a vacuum salesman) and I thought, I don't ever live in the livingroom, if here are crumbs, they are your potato chip eatin fault! we got into it, because he didn't feel I was doing my share of the dishes or vacuuming... I said, I wash the dishes I use so the ones in the sink are always yours. same with the livingroom. I don't use it! I had a double large bedroom and thusly friends came over and we spent time in my bedroom. simple.
This of course is not your situation, but it did bring up the communication I didn't start when living with someone, and reminded me that I will have to write that down on things to communicate if I ever decide to live with "E"
Had he done so I would probably have swung into aching action. We've had a stint of him skipping any dishes but his own and then not all, rather pointed
