I hate when that happens. :( I hope I can explain it, it's german for me and I have XP:
In German: Click right on the medium, Eigenschaften (features?)
-> Extras -> Fehlerüberprüfung (fault checking ?)
After going through this, the files were back. *shrugs* Works sometimes but not always.
Try to Google "how to save files from corrupted usb stick" or "how to save files from corrupted usb stick" or so. There seems to be software for recovering (deleted/corrupted) files.

What is so crazy about it all ... I had to start my laptop, do windows updates, restart it again ... then put in the flash drive that wouldn't work on my main computer. When I did that, the files finally showed at least on the laptop with the stick in. I then put the flash drive stick back into my PC, and it worked. A lot of time and crazy stuff trying to get it to work, but at least the files were salvaged. I was quite worried.
