Warm, not hot, sad wiggled between her toes. Her over-sized Hawaiian shirt was the perfect protection against the sun and her too large sunglasses completed her ensemble. If the Doctor could go around wearing a tweed jacket and heavy boots, she can wear this.

They had been here for about an hour. To be honest, there wasn’t much to do except relax… which the Doctor wasn’t exactly fond of… why he even suggested Space Florida in the first place was beyond Amy. He tried to tug Amy off to made-up adventures but she wouldn’t have any of it. They were relaxing. She sighed as she lay back down on the sand and just let her mind be blank for the first time in weeks. She stared up at the sky, such a crystal clear blue, the sea reflecting it perfectly. These were Caribbean-clear waters, unlike Earth’s Florida. It was gorgeous.

When Amy felt the sun getting a little too hot on her skin, she sat up, immediately grabbing the Doctor’s attention. She turned to him and observed his attire. “Take off your shoes.”

He sort of balked at the idea.

“Take them off. I want do something.”

The prospect of doing something, anything was enough of an argument for him. He toed off his shoes without untying them.

“Socks, too.”

He sort of grumbled something and yanked off his crew-cut socks which Amy swore he kept rolled up to his knee caps. “Happy?”

“You might want to roll up your trousers a bit, too” she said, fighting off the smile that was threatening to spill out over her lips. It was fabulous having this sort of power over him. He folded the ends of his trousers up twice on each leg and jumped up.

“So! Where to?” he asked brightly, extending his hand down to her.

She took his hand and moved slowly upwards until she was standing eye-height to him once again.

“Let’s take a walk,” and she led him, not letting go of his hand.

It probably wasn’t as exciting as the Doctor was hoping, but walking along the ocean did have a sort of Zen quality about it. The ocean’s rushing sound of its waves, the sea breeze rustling their clothes and hair, the salty air on their skin, it was all sort of relaxing. Amy’s favorite part was how the wet sand felt on her feet. Even though laying in the sun had made her warm with the shirt and shorts, getting her feet wet and walking next to the ocean had an amazing cooling effect.

They talked about everything and nothing, ranging from short funny anecdotes before they met one another, reminiscing about another adventure they shared, or the Doctor telling stories about the places he’s seen and where he wanted to take her.

The sun started to lower itself towards the horizon and so they turned around, making their way back to where the forgotten shoes and socks still sat. When the sky turned shades of purple, orange, red, and any other color Amy couldn’t pick out, she turned her head to watch. She felt the Doctor stop walking and turn himself completely to watch the simple yet beautiful scenery. Amy closed her eyes, took a deep breath of the sea inside and imprinted this moment into her memory. When she opened her eyes, she looked over to her Doctor and saw him gazing at her affectionately, with a small smile on his lips.

“Ready?” she asked, with a slightly playful look on her face.

“I thought you would never ask,” he said. They both grinned at each other wildly before running into the ocean.
