Mixed Feelings

So. I watched TRoA on Tuesday, I believe. And I was feeling a bit, "...meh" afterwards. The chemistry just wasn't there between the Doctor and Clara like I had seen in AotD or The Snowmen. Plus, it just felt sort of... I dunno, rushed? Over-dramatic? Particularly after seeing The Bells of St. John, an episode that had more mediocre bits in it than ( Read more... )

I haven't seen "Cold War" yet, but I was kind of meh on last week's episode, too. It had some fun bits, and Clara is very cute, but it was very slow-paced and the plot really made no sense to me.

As to what your brother said, it did remind me a bit of the episode where Nine takes Rose to see the end of the world.

Yeah, maybe I had it wrong. Maybe it was more dragged out than rushed. I remember distinctly now there were several times where I thought, "Is it about done?"

I loved the Rings of A! It's one of my favorite episodes. I've seen it three times and it's made me cry three times. I think it's so beautiful and the music really stuck in my head for a while.

I haven't had time to properly see Cold war yet. I liked what I've seen so far. I also noticed the diminish in chemistry between Eleven and Clara. They really sparkled in the Snowman and aotd. Something's off somehow.

the bbca series Ripper Street is quite good. I'm about half way through the series.

I keep hearing conflicting reports on what people felt about it. And I still haven't gone back to rewatch it.

YES. The diminished chemistry between the two really stuck out like a sore thumb. I imagine you've seen Cold War and Hide by this point? Because OMG THEY WERE SO GOOD.

People either seem to adore this episode or not care for it much. I'm in the latter camp - didn't do much for me, thought Clara was a little bit useless [she's a technology wiz and no one thought that would be useful on a submarine??]

One thing I did like about the episode, weirdly enough, was Clara's open terrified expressions. I mean, I enjoy a companion who can go in, kick ass, take names, and all that jazz, but in some ways I sort of liked that vulnerability...? I dunno, I just felt like it was a fresh take on the companion perspective.

I liked it too! Yup -- probably Gatiss's best!

YES! I was a bit weary at first 'cause Gatiss's episodes tend to be middle of the mill, but I was so pleased. :D
