Colds and other stuff

I came down with a cold last week, and it's running its due course. Starting with a sore throat around Wednesday, it has progressed in the normal way through my head, causing coughing and sneezing fits for good chunks of Saturday and Sunday. It has left my throat and has now firmly lodged itself in my sinuses, leaving me with a dwindling supply ( Read more... )

I've never been able to integrate book knowledge. It goes in one ear and out the other, and usually leaves me napping fitfully. Is there a secret to being able to retain book-learnin'?

It always amazes me how quickly the brain wants to go to the 'not learning' mode. I've always thought that the goal in life is to find a place to get comfortable and use what you know, but the only time that seems to happen is when people are dead. So it's probably not a bad thing to keep learning ad infinitum, but damn it's so much nicer to be complacent.

Sorry to hear about the cold... never fun, no matter how heavy or light they are... :/ *hugs*

Things seem to go like that at work for me too... mostly they come in spurts.. lots of the same same same stuff for a long time, and then they'll say "here, learn all this stuff FAST". ;P
One place where I was, I had been there over ten years and they put me on a job and I said I'd need training, so they said "You've been here ten years and don't know this?" ... People get isolated into specific areas at jobs, so yeah, it can happen.
